Nowadays, a crippling obsession with your social media image isn’t too uncommon.
Taking this obsession to great lengths is a major theme of Amazon Prime Video’s new thriller Chloe. Following Becky Green (played by Erin Doughtery) as she has an obsession with the social media presence of her old high school friend Chloe Fairbourne. Chloe seems to have it all, a picture perfect life, which is all that Becky wants. Things for Chloe take a turn for the worse when she is unexpectedly found dead. Upon hearing about this, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe’s closest friends to find out what happened to her. Though Becky’s every day life is from interesting as she cares for her mother with early onset dementia, her alter-ego Sasha has more to her story. However, the pretense soon obscures and conflates reality, and she discovers Chloe’s real life had not been nearly as perfect as it was portrayed online. As Becky spirals more and more into this world she has created, she quickly learns that not everything is how it seems online.
