Margot Bingham joined the cast of The Walking Dead since the end end of season 9. It was that season where her character Stephanie made contact with Alexandria.

Eugene was the person of contact when they exchanged conversations. But it was here on this episode that he finds out that Stephanie was actually Max. To talk about that twist and more, is Margot Bingham on this exclusive interview!

The Knockturnal: Prior to joining the cast of The Walking Dead, were you a fan of the series? If so, what were your favorite episodes?

MB: “Yes I was! I watched every episode on the edge of my seat. Honestly, the episode where Carol loses her daughter Sophia, It was one of the most heart crushing episodes that I’ve ever seen. And the episode where Daryl and Beth are on their own happened to be my two favorites.”

The Knockturnal: Eugene found out that Stephanie never existed as the real one is actually Max the entire time. Did you feel bad for Eugene after that entire Max reveal since he felt like he was either catfished or lied to?

MB: “Of course I felt bad for him. He thinks that he’s following this girl and then he totally gets catfished and he is trying to chase her and figure out who she is. And then she just disappeared. That must be a horrible feeling. And the audience and fans just love Eugene and he’s tried so hard to fall in love every time. You just really want to root him on. So, yeah, I feel really bad for him.”

The Knockturnal: You also got to work with Michael James Shaw on this episode. What was that experience like for you since on the show, they are siblings and in the source material, they were not family related?

MB: ” I feel very lucky to be able to play Mercer’s sister on The Walking Dead. I think Michael is one of the most talented actors I’ve ever worked with and he is just absolutely stunning. When the camera hits him, the world stops. I think he’s spectacular. And luckily we’ve created a friendship off camera and it shows on screen, I hope that fans will see that is something that really picks up that we really care for each other. And I’m very lucky to be in episodes with him because it’s very easy for me to pull as an actor and just jump right into the scene because he’s just so talented.”

The Knockturnal: What are your overall thoughts about The Commonwealth in general? Especially since everyone is under a class system and you are Pamela Milton’s assistant?

MB: “ It feels like we’re going back into this classism and hierarch that never really worked for anybody. And it’s been very interesting being in a role working under Pamela Milton and having to run that ship even when sometimes Max doesn’t necessarily agree with it. So it’s been really fun to be able to play that and I think that as fans will continue to watch throughout the season, you’ll see Max really trying to figure out where she stands in all of this.
