New Music Roundup: Releases You May Have Missed

This week, we have new music from Chet Faker, Bomba Estereo, Macy Gray, Pilar Victoria, and more.

CHET FAKER – GET HIGH [DETAIL / BMG]

Chet Faker is back.  Preceded by the pensive track “Low”, “Get High” marks the second Chet Faker single since Nick Murphy revived the acclaimed project last year. The track arrives alongside a self-made music video that’s filled with a vibrant array of mind-melting animated visuals, aptly channeling the song’s funky swagger and escapist lyricism. The release of his new music has ignited a vivid new chapter for Chet Faker, with more new music on the horizon that we can’t wait to hear.

FRED FALKE & ZEN FREEMAN – MAKE ME FEEL FT. MACY GRAY [ASTRX]

Having teamed up in 2020 for their disco-tinged single ‘Underground’, legendary French producer Fred Falke and LA’s Zen Freeman have joined forces once again, this time bringing along the one and only Macy Gray for the ride. Their new collaboration ‘Make Me Feel’ is an instant house classic, powered by live bass, retro synthesizers, and nineties drum machines, it nods to turn-of-the-century French house with a straightforward, yet unshakable groove and with Macy’s unmistakable and distinctive vocal stylings making it a match made in dancefloor heaven.

BOMBA ESTEREO – AGUA / DEJA / SOLEDAD [SONY MUSIC]

Colombian stars Bomba Estereo have finally announced ‘Deja,’ their long-awaited first album in 4 years. The band has released the album’s first 3 songs to accompany the announcement – “Agua,” “Deja” and “Soledad”. As 2021 awakens, trying to shrug off the dark cobwebs of a tumultuous year of uncertainty, Bomba Estereo is trying to reassure everyone that it’s going to be okay. In the middle of the pandemic, the Colombian electro-folkloric dance band and a community of collaborators got together in a Caribbean beach house in Santa Marta. Where the Sierra Nevada mountains meet the sea, they let it all go and recorded the album ‘Deja.’

PILAR VICTORIA – 80s MOVIE [PLATOON]

Argentine-American teenage artist Pilar Victoria has officially released her new single “80’s Movie” today and announced her forthcoming debut EP Hi, My Name is Pily, arriving February 26th, 2021 via Platoon. Inspired by the iconic decade, “80’s Movie” explores familiar romantic themes and radiates feelings of nostalgia told through Pilar’s modern point of view. Accompanying the song is an equally warm and enchanting visual, comprised of vintage footage reminiscent of an idyllic 80’s summer.

MORILLO – SHADES OF GREEN LP [GRAVITAS RECORDINGS]

Best known as the drummer for Rhye, Morillo takes a big step in tethering both of his passions – drumming and music production – together in his new LP. During quarantine, Morillo prioritized the ability to properly record and incorporate acoustic drums into his production from his Los Angeles studio. From there, he dedicated his energy to tuning and refurbishing his drum kit, acquiring necessary recording gear, and learning engineering skills to translate them into production. The result: a fresh esthetic divorcing from strictly electronic sounds, empowering a live and humanistic aspect to his music. Shades of Green is a hypnotic, handmade small-batch record that dives deep into organic soundscapes to move listeners spiritually and physically.

DASHA – SHINY THINGS [QUADIA RECORDS]

Known for quick-witted passionate vocals, LA-based DASHA’s songwriting has proven to be successful. Her latest single, “Shiny Things” is no exception, serving as an ode to finding the confidence to be who you want to be. Behind her independence is her support of women having a larger role within the industry. “I’ve always been surrounded by women that are just so unafraid to get what they want. I guess I picked that up.” As she moves further into the industry she has increasingly found the importance of being in control of not only music, but who she is as an artist and industry professional.
