The new film βLet Him Goβ is out this week. The Knockturnal got the chance to sit down with the director, Thomas Bezucha ahead of its release.
The thriller follows retired sheriff George Blackledge (Kevin Costner) and his wife Margaret (Diane Lane) following the loss of their son. They then leave their Montana ranch to rescue their young grandson from the clutches of a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas, headed by matriarch Blanche Weboy. When they discover the Weboys have no intention of letting the child go, George and Margaret are left with no choice but to fight for their family.
When speaking to Bezucha about his involvement in the film he said: βI got involved because I have been a fan of Larry Watson, the author of the book, forever. I found the book β talked to Larry β and felt like I had an idea on how to write the screenplay. He was gracious enough to give it to me so, I wrote it and we went from there!β
In regards to his favorite scene, he said: βI have a lot of favorite scenes in this one, but I like any scene where everyone comes together. The dinner table scene in the middle of the movie where they visit Lesley Manvilleβs house for the first time and the two mothers face off for the first time. For me, itβs the pivot point in the movie. The movie βthe pace is slow the first half to get us there β and what I love is that you as the audience donβt know any more than Kevin and Diane, how much trouble theyβre in and they sort of realize it once they meet Blanche.”
