One the year’s most anticipated releases hits Netflix this Friday (October 16), and it follows the story of seven protesters in the late ’60s charged with conspiracy, and the intention to start a riot.
For writer/director Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing) this project has been 15 years in the making, with Steven Spielberg actually attached to direct at one point, but in the midst of 2020’s public demonstrations and widespread activism, it seems like The Trial of the Chicago 7 couldn’t be dropping at a more relevant time.
The film’s cast is stacked, with stars like Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jeremy Strong, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen taking on the roles of some iconic real-life activists. For Sorkin, the cast made putting on the director’s hat even more of a pleasure.
“Honestly the whole cast was fantastic, I felt like when I got to work in the morning like somebody was tossing me the keys to a Formula One race car,” he told The Knockturnal!
