On The Scene: Huluween Red Carpet and Party

On Friday, October 3rd, Hulu kicked off Huluween with a spooky party in NYC and an appearance from several stars from new and recurring Hulu shows!

This October, Hulu is kicking off Huluween, serving all of the spooky and scary shows for everyone to binge this month.  Huluween is a big month for Hulu.  For the second year in a row, Hulu has dedicated October to releasing horror genre shows and movies, new and old.  Alongside releasing much anticipated new shows and new seasons of existing shows, Hulu also holds a film festival.  Here indie filmmaker contestants create terrifying short films and the seven winners get their film exclusively featured on Hulu.  To celebrate Huluween and all of the new shows and seasons coming this month, Hulu hosted a Huluween party in New York City during Comic-Con week.  From the stars of ongoing shows like “Castle Rock”, “Runaways” and “Light as a Feather”, to newcomers to Hulu from shows like “Reprisal” and “The Orville”, everyone came out to have fun and celebrate the start of Huluween!

Huluween starts this October to satisfy all of your horror binging needs.

From the new show “Reprisal” Abigail Spencer and Mena Massoud walked down the Huluween Red Carpet.  From the hit series coming back for its second season, “Castle Rock” stars Lizzy Caplan, Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi, Paul Sparks, Tim Shaw, and Matthew Alan also arrived.  From another show coming back for its second season, “Light As A Feather” stars Liana Liberato, Haley Ramm, Jordan Rodrigues, Dylan Sprayberry, and Brianne Tju appeared on the carpet.  And from the show that moved to Hulu after two successful seasons on FOX, “The Orville” stars Adrianne Palicki and Jessica Szohr appeared on the carpet.  Lastly, from the MCU, “Runaways” stars Virginia Gardner, Lyrica Okan, and Rhenzy Feliz walked down the carpet

After the carpet, we were able to go inside to the party at the White Street Restaurant & Bar.  The décor at the venue was really amazing.  Immediately when walking in you’re greeted with this really cool smokescreen which has “huluween” projected onto it like a green hologram.  Walking in past the open bar is the main hall, where DJ D-Nice and a very instagrammable pool table is.  A really nice touch that they added was having actors placed throughout the party that would do creepy or scary things.  As I was walking into the main hall area, I brushed past a tall man carrying some sort of tube made of saran wrap.  I turned around to see what he was dragging and it looked vaguely like a body.  He also turned around and stared coldly at me, taking a giant step towards me.  As he towered over me I glanced once again at the “body” and saw two hands through the saran wrap.  I looked back up to him and he placed his fingers over his lips and quickly left.  That little touch and those kinds of natural and coincidental interactions are what really made this party a cut above the rest.  Further into the main hall was a stainless steel table with an array of beakers, flasks, and strange chemicals.  Behind the table was a mad scientist doing photo ops with people.  While he wasn’t scary, he stayed in character quite well, as did all of the other actors.  With so many actors sprinkled throughout the party, many people weren’t exactly sure who was and wasn’t an actor, giving some a faint sense of anxiety when entering a new room.  Many people were convinced that this figure with a white cape and creepy mask wasn’t a mannequin, but an actor standing incredibly still, waiting for some poor soul to get really close and scare them.  Some actors were more obvious, like my other favorite character, Edward Scissor-hands doing some artistic landscaping.  I’ve got to say that Hulu nailed the overall atmosphere of the party.  It’s spooky and interactive enough to be exciting and fun while giving everyone enough space from the interaction to socialize.
