The Global Citizen Festival took over New York Central Park to honor and give back to those individuals who are trying to tackle the planet’s most challenging issues.
The festival’s 8-year anniversary saw a crowd of over 60,000 Global Citizens attend the festival with over a million able to watch online or on MSNBC. Actor Hugh Jackman hosted the festival. It started with French Montana taking the stage to perform his hit “Unforgettable,” setting the tone for a memorable night for those in attendance.
Shortly after French finished his performance, OneRepublic took the stage to perform several of their hits including performing Beyonce’s “Halo,” a song which the group actually wrote for her. It was a powerful moment to hear the songwriter singing his song. Next to perform with the legendary Songbird herself Carole King who belted out hits like “Natural Woman.” She hadn’t performed in Central Park since 1973, but just like back then she urged those in the crowd to call the representatives and fight for the northern Rockies protection. Before she left the stage she performed with Kelly Clarkson, to which Kelly noted the moment was a dream come true for her.
