Concert Review: Conan Grey Rocks Bowery Ballroom

On the night of March 27th, tweens and teens from all around the tri-state area gathered at The Bowery Ballroom for Conan Grey’s concert, bringing their parents in tow. The frenzied screams of boys and girls in that room crescendoed as the lights dimmed and Conan walked onstage with the confidence of a person twice his age.

Gray grew up in the small-town community of Georgetown, Texas using no other tools other than Garageband and a cheap microphone taped to a lamp. In 2017 he rose to stardom with his debut single “Idle Town,” an ode dedicated to his humble beginnings, which racked in 12 million YouTube views and 24 million-plus Spotify streams. The singer with a massive online following was then signed to Republic Records.

Gray began the set with some of his crowd-pleasing songs, “Crush Culture” and “Idle Town.” In fact, one girl in the front row fainted and he stopped the set to help her. After nursing her back to health with water until security whisked her away to safety, Gray exclaimed, “I am so sorry! I don’t mean to do this, I don’t mean to make people faint!”

The crowd continued to swoon as he pulled out his most recent song “The King”  and his love ballad break up song “Lookalike.” Gray’s down to earth and sensitive nature translates to his songs beautifully and relates to his audience well. It is no surprise that the young singer-songwriter is already taking the pop scene by storm.
