βThe Girl in the Spiderβs Webβ the new sequel toΒ βThe Girl withΒ the Dragon Tattooβ hosted a special New York screening Sunday night, attended by its star Claire Foy and her fellowΒ cast members.
The new adaption sees Foy, taking over the role of Lisbeth Salander from Rooney Mara. Known for her Golden Globe wining performance in The Crown, it was the complexity of Lisbeth’s character that drew Foy to the role.
“I donβt seek out women who are justΒ βstrong,ββ she told the Knockturnal. “I seek out parts for women who areΒ vulnerable, complex, brave, courageous, difficult, above all women who struggle really. That’s what makes drama interesting, and that’s the women Iβm interested in my lifeβ Β
βI really appreciate her non-judgmental approach to life,β Foy says about Lisbeth. βShe doesnβt judge anyone based on their sex, their religion, their political. I think sheβs a very open person and I think the world could do with more people like that.β
Director Fede Alvarez told us tackling this story with his background creating thriller films wasΒ creativelyΒ gratifying. “For the kind of stuff, Iβve been doing [this story] wasΒ something that was a lot of fun to play with.”
“I always say I make two movies, one for you, another one for yourΒ subconscious. You might watch it and be likeΒ βthis scene is making me feel bad, but yourΒ subconscious is having a great time because thereβs something that is tickling back there that youΒ donβt even knowΒ what is …Β I think film has the potential toΒ do that and I really try to do that every time,β he continued.
The Girl in the Spiderβs Web hits theaters November 9.
