We are all eagerly anticipating “Venom,” which appears in theaters tomorrow, October 5th.
Marvel’s newest film depicts journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) who is trying to take down the notorious founder of the Life Foundation, Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed). When investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie’s body accidentally mixes with the alien Venom, turning him supernatural. Venom’s dark anger tries to control Eddie and his new abilities for harm, everything Eddie is against.
As you reread the comics and impatiently wait for showing tomorrow, check out this inside scoop as we spoke to members of the cast at the film’s premiere.
The Knockturnal: What was it like directing Tom hardy?
Ruben Fleischer (Director): To get to work with somebody that talented, who elevates things so much, was just so exciting. He brings so much to the table, so much complexity, and so much humor. I think fans will be really surprised with how funny he is in this movie. He is just so entertaining to watch and you can’t take your eyes off of him throughout.
The Knockturnal: What was it like working on a movie that uses CGI?
Sam Medina (Parolee): You have to know your craft. A lot of times you don’t have another person working across from you. You have to imagine the space that you are in and the awareness of where you are because it’s all blue screen and green screens. So you definitely have to know what you are doing because it can come off as not as real.
Ruben Fleischer (Director): For me it was a huge learning curve. I’ve never done an entirely CGI character. So for me I just wanted to make sure that we nailed the look of venom and that it felt, for fans, that we had done him justice.
The Knockturnal: What was unique about filming a movie that is based on a comic book?
Sope Aluko (Dr. Rosie Collins): I came from Black Panther, so I did that already. First my kids were so excited about Venom. They were like “Oh my gosh! Mama you’re in Venom!” I think this was the first time that people get to see Venom visually. Venom has been played in the past, but this Venom is so real because it’s so close to Tom hardy. It’s so perfectly cast, and he really brings it.
The Knockturnal: What goes through your mind being on set and then watching the whole movie come together on screen?
Sam Medina (Parolee): It’s so surreal. Can you do me a favor? Pinch me? It’s that surreal for me to have worked with Tom Hardy. I didn’t know what Venom was gonna look like at all. What happened was, one day I woke up, I made the trailer, and holy crap everything changed for me. Let me just add this note, Tom hardy is an amazing human being. Not just a talent, not just charming as an actor, but as a human being. And as a fellow cast member, it was an amazing opportunity for me to work with him. He’s awesome.
The Knockturnal: When you first started making the McFarlane figurines, what went into your mind on making them better and different than the ones that already exist?
Todd McFarlane (Venom Co-Creator): I walk by toys just like tens of millions of other people do and they all ask the same question I asked which was, why can’t they look cooler? Right? Here’s what I know for a fact and I’ve been in the toy business for 20 years, plastic doesn’t care what shape it’s in. So when you sculpt your toys, don’t stop sculpting till it looks good. I just wanted to make them look cool and then everyone went crazy for it.

The Knockturnal: If you could use any of Venom’s superpowers what would it be?
Sam Medina (Parolee): It would be those tentacle arms. You could block the haters away for miles.
