“Father of the Year” is a comedy starring David Spade, Nat Faxon, Joey Bragg and Matt Shiveley.

Ben (Joey Bragg) and Larry (Matt Shiveley) arrive home from college with hopeful plans for their future. But when a joking debate between who’s dad would win in a fight is taken seriously by one of their fathers, things get out of hand and hopes for adulthood after college is questioned. Wayne (David Spade) and Mardy (Nat Faxon) battle in hopes of impressing their sons by being the ‘better’ father. Through this long and wild fight, careers are ruined, jail time is served, and true colors are shown.

At a special screening of Father of the Year, we were able to meet the cast and crew of the film and talk about the fight shown on screen, and those off screen. Enjoy our exclusive content as we ask Matt Shiveley, Allen Covert, Tyler Spindel and Chris Titone on who they think would win in a fight.

The Knockturnal: In the movie, Wayne and Mardy Get into a huge competition about who would win in a fight. If you had to choose another cast member to go up against, who would that be and why?

Matt Shiveley (Larry): That I would go up against? That would be Bill Kottkamp, because he’s lanky and I think I could dodge him and I think I could take him down. Definitely Bill.

Allen Covert (Producer): Man, I don’t know. I mean, I’m out of shape. Just someone who’s gonna get winded before I do. It’s literally one of those where it’s just gonna be like three swings and then like “alright, let’s go get some hamburgers.”

Tyler Spindel (Director): Who would I beat up? Uh, definitely Bill Kottkamp. I could kick that guy’s ass. That’s the only one. Everybody else I would definitely lose but Bill Kottkamp, I would destroy him.

Chris Titone (Flasher): Ok so, Jared Sandler is my cousin and I don’t know if I would absolutely win, but I think it would be a good fight. And I challenge him right now, and right here. To be honest, he’s 15 years younger than me and in way better shape, so he’s winning the fight, but I’d have a good time.

The Knockturnal: Do you see any similarities between yourself and the character you play in the movie?

Chris Titone (Flasher): Nothing. I mean the guy I played is so aggressively sexual I mean it’s insane. It’s to a guy of course, but it’s forced flashing. That’s what I’m doing the whole movie.

The Knockturnal: Thanks for warning us.

Chris Titone (Flasher): Yeah, get ready for it.

The Knockturnal: Is that something you like doing? To play someone so out of your comfort zone?

Chris Titone (Flasher): Yeah it was a lot of fun. It was so much fun playing him and it was the first time I ever worked with an Oscar winner. Nat Faxon has an Oscar for writing the Descendants. The day before I met him I was talking to my girlfriend and I was like “Babe, do I have to speak in a British accent? How do you talk to an Oscar winner?” He ended up being really cool though, you know comedian to comedian.

The Knockturnal: What was your favorite thing about filming on set?

Matt Shiveley (Larry): Just being around the people I was around. Allen Covert, half of Happy Madison, and David Spade. I mean, I grew up watching all of their stuff and it was just very surreal. So the whole experience really cool.

The Knockturnal: Do you see any similarities between yourself and Larry who you play in the movie?

Matt Shiveley (Larry): Other than the washboard abs? No. I think for a while I didn’t really know what I wanted to do in life as well, and I think that was very easy to relate to with him because I mean it’s difficult. Especially when you’re out of college and you don’t really know where you’re going or what you’re doing.

The Knockturnal: Do you think Larry could relate to a lot of other young kids out there?

Matt Shiveley (Larry): Yeah, I mean especially in our age now I feel like nobody knows what they’re doing. I think everybody could relate with Larry because he’s lost just as much as everybody else.

Father of the Year is out now on Netflix.
