Peter Pilotto debuted his Spring/Summer 18 Collection at London Fashion Week.

Our team was backstage with MAC Cosmetics watching the makeup designs unfold. Thomas de Kluyver, the lead makeup artist explained the inspiration behind the looks.

“For Peter Pilotto this season the collection has really been inspired by the ‘60s and ‘70s. You’ve got a lot of really flowy fabrics, a lot of pastel colors and so for the makeup we kind of wanted to go about it in the same way with sort of like a free 1970’s vibe. It’s kind of like this Californian disco girl- she is not too glamorous but has a little touch of something sort of chic. For the skin, I’m really into raw skin this season, I think we’ve seen people wearing a lot more makeup than ever before and I’d love for them to start taking a little bit of that off. I think this kind of spirit of using makeup as a way to express yourself rather than covering up is really nice. So what we are doing is using a very light moisturizer, then getting the Face and Body Foundation and rubbing it in our hands and then applying it like a tinted moisturizer, just to give a little bit of coverage but nothing too thick. Then I’m getting a little bit of concealer and putting it under the eyes and around the nose just to even out a bit but I really want to see the skin. I love seeing like freckles, moles and things. I think it’s really important to see the personality and feeling in the models. For the top of the cheeks we are highlighting with Pearl mixed with Careblend, it’s apart of the Essential Oils. When you put a highlighter at the top of the cheekbone, the thing is –  you actually create a shadow so you don’t need to add conturing powders and things. I think you can be a lot lighter with your makeup.

For the brows we are just doing a natural brune, I want a ‘70s brow, so a little square, a little masculine, I think is nice. I’m really not into this HD brow look, I’d love to see something a little more natural, a little more free. On the lips we are using Modesty lipstick which is the perfect nude. It literally looks good on everyone. Then we are putting a little Prep+Prime Powder on top so it gives sort of a matte finish on the lip, then you have this beautiful glowy shiny healthy skin. To finish off, we’re doing a glittery disco eye which we are using the Silver Creme from the Spring/Summer 18 trend palette. Putting a little bit on the finger and just patting it around the eye. Then we are getting a #224 Brush, dipping it in glitter and light placing it on the eyes and naturally letting it fall over the face. So overall, it’s a really free energy, feel good makeup look that people can actually do at home.”
