Last week, rising star 80purppp kicked off his mini tour on the stage of Baby’s All Right, a trendy venue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The Knockturnal was on scene to witness 80purppp’s first performance in the Big Apple. With doors opening at 9:30 pm, we listened to tunes from DJ Lugz and watched as the crowd started to fill the room. Before his performance, the UK-born but Canadian-raised artist expressed how grateful he was to be in New York City. He joked with the crowd, calling his experience exciting because NYC is the home of the sitcoms such as “Friends” and “In A New York Minute.”
At the Brooklyn showcase, 80purppp performed a series of songs from his catalogue, including his latest single “Uni.” While 80purppp may be a newbie, his stage presence was strong. He engaged the audience with his storytelling and energetic personality. In reference to one of his songs, 80purppp gave his fans solid advice, “Never leave an artist a voicemail because it will be used.”
This Brooklyn performance was the first stop in the 4-date tour. 80purppp fans will be happy to know that he will be gracing stages in major U.S. cities such as Atlanta and Los Angeles before heading back to Canada.
80purppp received a lot of media buzz with his breakthrough single “Hex,” which was released in 2018. Currently, the song has over 115 million streams worldwide. Over the years, his music has consistently built his fan base upward. When he asked the crowd at Baby’s All Right, how many people traveled to his show, numerous hands rose, and 80purppp thanked them for their loyalty.
The 21-year-old artist has a unique but gentle voice that his fans gravitate towards. In combination with superb piano skills and his ability to rap and sing, he is undeniably talented.
