The 6th Annual Foundation For Letters Fall Benefit Gala

The 6th Annual Foundation for Letters Fall Benefit Gala and Award Ceremony took place in New York on October 26th, 2017.

This gala, which is titled Imagination Unleashed, is a fundraiser for writing and mentorship programs for urban college-bound kids and also celebrates authors and educators who excite young minds and unleash creativity. The Foundation for Letters organization offers unique and engaging, writing-based academic enrichment programs, targeting outreach to high school and middle school students in under-served urban neighborhoods.

This years benefit gala was hosted by TV personality Bevy Smith and honored Amy Ewing, Ibi Zobai, and Karina Garcia. Amy Ewing is a New York Times best selling author and two-time Bronx-Loaf workshop leader, Ibi Zobai is a National Book Award Nominee and, Karina Garcia is an author and YouTube sensation as well. The program also honored four New York City high school teachers with the FFL Distinguished Service Awards for going above and beyond to promote writing in their schools.

In the past two years FFL’s program has reached hundreds of students from over 40 different New York City schools. At this year’s gala they have now reached over 60 schools and with the continuing support from donors and fundraisers, this improvement of reaching more urban schools will hopefully be able to become a city wide program.
