London Fashion Week Sizzles

Fashion lovers continue to get their fix as London Fashion Week begins to wrap up day three with stunning new looks from well-known designers.

The annual fashion event held in London has come to be known as the birthplace of European giants presenting their Winter/Autumn collections. Today marked the return of many big brands, including a small comeback war of sorts between Mulberry, Anya Hindmarch, and Hill & Friends. While Mulberry returned to the catwalk after a three-year hiatus, it came to prove a point of growth. After suffering low sales the brand hired Johnny Coca to help the brand shift away from its old labels and into new directions. Meanwhile the catwalk also saw fierce accessory competition from Hindmarch, previously working for Mulberry, and Emma Hill, both brands inspired by Mulberry shapes and styles. The catwalk became a battle of creative antics that blew Mulberry out of their once familiar waters, however Mulberry and Coca shifted away from the usual competition and kept to a clean and neat catwalk focusing more on the fashion prints than the creative methods.

The most buzz came from the return of Alexander McQueen to the catwalk. For the past 15 years McQueen stayed away from London Fashion Week, 10 of those years after the death of head designer Alexander McQueen, but now the brand has returned to the fashion show. New designer Sarah Burton brought the iconic brand back to London and with it introduced the label’s new collection. Burton made the collection a cohesive continuation of her pre-fall designs and slammed the catwalk with beautiful sheer and sequined pieces. The McQueen/Burton collection drew inspiration from nature and airy movements featuring butterflies, flowers, and sequins throughout the garments and on the models. The airy pieces were immediately juxtaposed with the sharp cuts of dark leather and fur resulting in spectacular ready to wear dresses and jackets.

Vivienne Westwood also stunned as always on the catwalk with a political fashion show. Combining her concerns for climate change and political actions with an apocalyptic sense of style, Westwood presented a collection embodying many looks. Her collection combined slouchy dresses, loose jackets, evening gowns, and much more. Giving her models an androgynous look Westwood opted out of one set theme but rather gave her crowd an eclectic eyeful of fashion magic.

Keep your eyes peeled for more looks that will stun on the runway and who knows, with the Oscars coming up so soon, it won’t be surprising to see red carpet stunners on the catwalk.
