As the year quickly approaches its final days, the world’s funniest women have gathered together to toast to a new year and roast the heck out of the wild year that was 2021.
The groundbreaking comedy special, Yearly Departed has returned with a line up of emerging and all-star talent including, Dulcé Sloan, X Mayo, Aparna Nancherla, Chelsea Peretti, Meg Salter, and the legendary Jane Fonda as well as special guest Alessia Cara. Previously hosted by Tiffany Haddish, this season Insecure star Yvonne Orji has taken over the reins. From Hot Vaxx Summer to Zoom to Being an A**hole to Ignoring the Climate Crisis, Yearly Departed bids a raucous, celebratory farewell to the year that will not be missed. Say your goodbyes with the ladies on December 23 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Each person has experienced their own personal highs and lows with 2020’s stepsister, 2021 however host Orji took it upon herself to say farewell to the hustle and grind mentality. Ladies such as Naomi Osaka, Simone Biles, Serena Williams and more have decided to protect their mental health and take some time to recover and relax and according to Orji, this may be the new wave. “For the people who have been grinding and breaking their backs and not enjoying life and just strictly surviving and not thriving and existing but not living it’s like, let’s readjust, let’s reaffirm,” states Orji. If 2020 taught us anything it’s that we are all essential workers in our own right and choosing yourself might be the best thing you can do. While Orji celebrates the death of the hustle & grind, Nancherla mourns the death of the hermit life that we left in 2020.
On the other hand, comedians X Mayo (The Daily Show) and Dulcé Sloan (The Daily Show) came in hot as they bid farewell to cancel culture and “my body my choice” bumper stickers. The two have a hilariously impolitically correct eulogy that is sure to get an “Amen” or a dramatic faint from the aunties in the back pew. Either way, Yearly Departed addresses topics we all can relate to, laugh at, cringe at or all of the above.
