Winners of the 34th Edition of The Gothams Announced

The 34th annual Gotham Awards, held on December 2, 2024, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, honored the best in independent film and media. Hosted by the Gotham Film & Media Institute, the ceremony celebrated innovation, diversity, and excellence in storytelling across categories such as film, television, and emerging talent.

Highlights of the Night:

  • Best Feature was awarded to A Different Man, directed by Aaron Schimberg and released by A24.
  • Best International Feature went to All We Imagine as Light, directed by Payal Kapadia.
  • No Other Land was named Best Documentary Feature, recognizing the collaborative efforts of Yuval Abraham, Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, and Rachel Szor.
  • RaMell Ross won Best Director for Nickel Boys, while Azazel Jacobs secured Best Screenplay for His Three Daughters.
  • Vera Drew earned the Breakthrough Director Award for The People’s Joker.

Performance Awards:

  • Colman Domingo received the Outstanding Lead Performance award for Sing Sing.
  • Clarence Maclin was honored with Outstanding Supporting Performance for the same film.
  • Brandon Wilson was celebrated as the Breakthrough Performer for his role in Nickel Boys.

Student Showcase and Tributes: The sixth annual Focus Features & JetBlue Student Short Film Showcase spotlighted five emerging filmmakers, including Nicole Chi (Los Mosquitos) and Eva Steinmetz (Marina). Each winner received a $1,000 grant and mentorship opportunities.

Additionally, the evening featured The Gotham Tributes, celebrating outstanding contributions to film and culture:

  • Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, and James Mangold received accolades for their performances and collaborations.
  • Angelina Jolie was recognized for her portrayal of Maria Callas in Maria.
  • The cast of The Piano Lesson received the Ensemble Tribute.
  • Denis Villeneuve and Franklin Leonard were celebrated for their visionary contributions to cinema and storytelling.
