The Weeknd and Future are second to none in dominating the mainstream.
Personally, I find Future a much stronger artist when working with another singer or emcee. There’s something about his cadence and content that doesn’t necessarily fill out a track. However, when playing sidekick there’s nobody that can provide a better contrast.
I really enjoyed this track and I think Future and Weeknd play off each other really well. Future’s drugged out vocals play like bass to trebble in respect to Weeknd’s clean and ice vocals. I think Weeknd even plays better with Future than Drake. He would spend the majority of their collab tracks trying to mimic Future, while Weeknd doesn’t compromise his style and it makes for a really enjoyable mesh of sound.
I would even say that I’d be excited to see the duo put out a full LP. However there is a caveat in this collaboration. I think the scope of content they reach into while collaborating is narrow at best. Between Future and Weeknd, the crossover is really just sex and drugs. When going solo they show more variation (even though speaking frankly, sex and drugs are the main stays of both artists’ lyrics).
