Wang Tao Explores Eternal Beauty With Suiting at Taoray Wang Fall/Winter 2019

Eternity was the inspiration behind the Taoray Wang Fall/Winter 2019 show at New York Fashion Week.

Tiffany Trump and Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What attended the show, which presented a collection that channeled timeless style, beauty, and grace. What was Wang Tao’s, the Founder, CEO, and Chief Design Officer, way of displaying this? With lots and lots of suiting.

A trend that has been seen on the runways the past few seasons once again made its way onto the Taoray Wang runway in the form of power suits in grey plaid, mustard yellow, and burnt orange. Both the suits and some dresses in navy blue were accented with bold, exaggerated shoulder pads and fedora-like hats.

“I am inspired by the magnificent women that have redefined the standards of beauty crossing age boundaries to defy fashion’s elusive beauty standards. I am equally inspired by our millennial customers who are adding their own fresh, sexy and colourful signature to classic corporate suits,” stated Tao in the show notes.

The show notes also stated that “this collection [was] dedicated to those who stand out and take charge of their destiny,” which emulates the power suiting that audiences have recently seen adorn top women politicians–Re: Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

While the message behind the collection is powerful, the pieces were not. Variations on the same few suits are not new for Taoray Wang. Perhaps they were ahead of the trend in past seasons, but there was hardly anything that was new or experimental for the New York Fashion Week veteran. Yes, the styling was ageless and could appeal to a wide range of people, it would have been more interesting to see a fresh take on the what seem to be the brand’s signature silhouettes and go-to color stories.
