A story true to love and true to Hollywood. The arrival of Oscar season brings several things to Los Angeles. Packed movie theatres, new talent hoping this will be their break, and of course, a medley of can’t miss screenings. Several of them were shown during Variety’s Screening Series presented by FilmStruck. Beyond that of a traditional screening, Variety also offered audiences an intimate look into the artist’s minds that collaborated on the film they just watched. One of the series’ films, “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool” was one of the few shown.
Based on a book by the same title, the film follows the life of Oscar-winning actress Gloria Grahame (Annette Bening), during her final years and final love story with Peter Turner (Jamie Bell). If you don’t mind a few spoilers be sure to check out our review here.
After the screening Variety picked the brains of Bening, Bell, director Paul McGuigan, and the real Peter Turner/author. The quartet discussed everything from the reality of portraying British families on screen, to recreating the lives of the once famous, to their favorite filmmakers. Watch the full interview below!
