With the success of Dateline NBC to Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries, it’s safe to say that America has a “slight” obsession with true crime series. Shows and documentaries have been extremely popular for decades, and with the addition of podcasts, the true crime genre has only been on the rise over the past few years.
On Tuesday, October 24, Jason Daley Kennedy presented Wondery’s “Exhibit C: A True Crime Experience Live,” in New York City. The event took place at Gotham Hall and enlisted some of the leading true crime experts from Wondery to help the audience take part in crime scene investigations and forensics, while they also discussed thrilling stories, and participated in Q&As.
Esteemed true crime storyteller, MrBallen, of MrBallen Podcast: Strange, Dark, and Mysterious Stories and MrBallen’s Medical Mysteries, was a speaker at the event and explored related topics with Marshall Lewy, Chief Content Officer of Wondery. Candice DeLong, host of Killer Psyche, enabled the audience to put themselves in the shoes of a serial killer, and Sarah Hagi and Scaachi Koul of Scamfluencers shocked attendees with a never-before-heard scam. Laura Beil, from Dr. Death, carried a deep conversation with Marissa Hoechstetter, a survivor whose mission is to raise awareness of sexual abuse by professionals in the medical field.
Ashley Michel Hoban, Executive Producer of the “Dr. Death” Peacock series, was also in attendance, and she released the highly anticipated trailer for Season 2, which will be available to stream on December 21st. This season follows the story of Dr. Paolo Macchiarini, a thoracic surgeon who was discovered to have manipulative tendencies and has now been convicted of research-related crimes in Italy and Sweden.
