Inspired by the heatwave that’s encompassing the city this week, we’ve put together a series of indie records that are sure to send chills crawling up your spine. Featuring a single off of My Morning Jacket‘s Carl Broemel‘s upcoming album, 4th of July, as well as one of the tracks included in HONNE’s debut studio album Warm on a Cold Night.
Airplane Man – ‘We’re On Fire‘
For those of you who haven’t heard this jam quite yet, you are welcome for providing you with a fresh, new pump up anthem for all of your summer weekends to come. This track is comprised a fusion of deep, empowering backing vocals, an incredibly catchy chorus, and a swanky kick drum carrying it through. To act as the icing on the cake, the video is highly entertaining – albeit trippy – and adds another layer to the listening experience.
Goat – ‘Try My Luck’
Sub-Pop never ceases to amaze us with their stellar releases. With class acts signed to their label, including Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, and a little band called Soundgarden, we’re confident in saying that an album release on their end is always something to look forward to. The up and coming Swedish enigmatic rock band recently announced that they have a third LP on the way – Requiem – which is set to come out on October 7th. They’ve been teasing us with singles – case in point: the one included above – that have stirring up the excitement pot in anticipation of finally hearing what they’ve been working on throughout the past year.

The beat in this song is so infectious, it could wipe out an entire nation; Andy Clutterbuck’s velvety vocals could soothe even the fussiest baby; the bass could inspire even the most culinary-challenged person to whip up a 3 course meal. Its ‘danceable’ factor is high enough to inspire you to groove in your room, but low enough to where it’s also perfect for opening a brewski and rhythmically tap your foot along to it playing in the background. HONNE are the rising kings of soulful jams.
Carl Broemel – ‘Snowflake‘
Carl Broemel, commonly known as My Morning Jacket’s lead guitarist, is a man of many talents. Apart from having mastered the craft of devising melodic, yet catchy guitar riffs, he has a way with words that is rarely found amongst today’s popular singer-songwriters. He takes you to a world wherein you feel like you’re being serenaded with the purest form of poetry. This song is great because it takes you on a journey: you think you know where it’s going and then, about halfway in, it takes an unexpected turn and you’re teleported to an an entirely new musical realm. Isn’t it crazy how good music can do that without requiring you to get out of your seat?
Check in next week to see what we’ve got in store for you!
