The Tribeca Film Festival was extra special this year because we were blessed with the premiere of “The Blackening”.
The film was produced by many amazing film makers like Tracy Oliver. Tracy has blessed us with many iconic projects like “Girl’s Trip, and our new black girl magic “fav”, “Harlem”. Tracy has now teamed up with director Tim Story and original sketch writer Dewayne Perkins to produce “The Blackening”. Dewayne Perkins originally wrote “The Blackening” as a sketch that went viral and inspired Tracy to take it to the big screens. “The Blackening” is a film that centers a fully black cast celebrating Juneteenth. What they thought was a perfect getaway weekend, ends up being a fight for their life. Although this film is set to be a horror, there is also lots humor centered around the film for a perfect balanced watch.
The cast of “The Blackening” gathered on Tuesday June 13th at the Apollo theatre in Harlem last night. It truly was the place to be. The red carpet was filled with smiles, grace, and most importantly excitement.
The premier panel was hosted by our favorite girl, Keke Palmer. As she says thank you to the audience for coming out to watch the premiere, a standing ovation was given due to how spectacular the film was. “The Blackening” release is on Juneteenth weekend and is a film for the cultural. Make sure you grab some popcorn and head down to your local theater to watch the humorous, horror film that many already say is a hit!
