This week, Game’s manager gave Stitches a few stitches, and Cudi gave his fans audial stitches.
It’s been a pretty wild week for Hip Hop, and not necessarily a good one. I feel like most of the events of the past week have been pure meme fodder. Bobby Shmurda being denied bail is enough to get twitter comedians riled up, and seeing Stitches get knocked out quicker than Ronda Rousey has led to a number of solid vines and Instagram videos.
As for music releases, BJ the Chicago Kid came in slinging down some soul food for thought with Big Krit.
Nxworries connected on a teaser EP, combining a lo-fi soul sound with a modern hip hop flavor. Amarii Davu came through with an interesting music video that honed in on a powerful message of racism among police officers. I’ve heard this topic expanded in more creative ways, but to be fair Amarii is young and while lacking innovation, it’s clear he’s very sincere on the track, choosing the topic because he truly believes in it.
On more of the beef side of things, Lupe sent shots at Kid Cudi just in time for Cudi to drop an album that re-defined our understanding of what a bad album can be capable of. It’s note exactly the best way at responding to a diss, but I guess that’s just my opinion.
To top the news with something more positive, Kendrick’s TPAB was named Spin’s album of the year, meaning it’s getting some amount of recognition the project deserves.
Most importantly, is this curation of DJ Khaled’s amazing rhetoric.
