More new music and new ideas has been the theme for this past week.
ILoveMemphis, creator of “Hit The Quan” has partnered with a music app called Triller, allowing anyone to shoot a quick video to their favorite song.
Emcee Kelechi stopped by Sway in the Morning to promote his debut album Before The Quarter. You can also peep his single on BeforeTheQuarter.com
Migos also announced another tour, for which tickets can be bought here. They’ve shown no sign of turning down the speed and energy they put into their music releases.
Rapper David Banner teamed up the Boys and Girls Club of Central Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi for the 9th annual Heal The Hood Program. Helping to provide finances and necessities to families in need, David is setting a good example for local outreach.
It’s been an oddly warm winter, so if you need something stale enough to bring down the temperature, you can stream Austin Mahone’s new project.
Angel Haze, an artist I really came to love in her ingenuity and sincerity through Back To The Woods, announced a second leg of her tour. Tickets and dates can be found on Songkick.
Puffy dropped a new project, MMM The Album. I feel like Puff doesn’t really stop working, really embodying that Hova line, “hustle harder in any hustle that you pick”. You can pick up the album at iTunes.
Generation Now and Atlantic Records have picked up a new artist in the form of Lil Uzi Vert, who has just released Luv is Rage
Marc E. Bassy has dropped the East Hollywood EP with Republic Records, before joining G. Eazy on tour. You can pick up that EP on iTunes
The stunning and hella talented Kehlani dropped a new track, “Did I” following her past mixtape You Should Be Here. I’m most definitely a fan of hers and I’m hyped about just the idea of new music from her. You can find the single for download on her website.
Christon Gray called on the lyrically volatile New York emcee Skyzoo for a track and music video. You can peep the video for “Connor McDees” below.
The A$AP crew has announced their first annual Yams day in memory of the late A$AP Yams (RIP). It’s going to be taking place in Terminal 5 on January 18th with performances from Flatbush Zombies, Joey Bada$$, and others. It’s a really beautiful thing to watch creative friends do everything they can to stamp their homie’s name into history. It’s bound to be a bomb show and I wish them the best of luck.
Azalea Banks was arrested in New York after punching and biting the breast of a female security guard. It’s safe to say this act will make more press rounds than her last album, which had as much kick as old ketchup. However I’m not surprised by this kind of behavior from pop star rappers, especially when they get so detached from reality.
Most importantly, the FBI reported that the Wu Tang album has not been seized after the arrest of Martin Shkreli (aka a badly written twelve year old super villain). I’m not sure if I actually want the album to be in the possession of the Feds. I guess for now it’s better sitting at Shkreli’s lair.
