The Get Down: Why Part Two Will Be A Netflix Masterpiece

The Knockturnal attended the NYC exclusive screening of The Get Down – part two’s endless cliffhangers are bound to toy with emotions of the popular drama series’ fans like never before.

Music from 1978 booms as show enthusiasts watch throwback trains charged through the hilly graffiti-covered landscape of the South Bronx.  The Get Down’s illustration of hip-hop come-to-life is powerfully painted by culture pioneers, such as Grandmaster Flash, and the legendary Nas. After a highly successful debut, the Sony Pictures for Television/Netflix favorite’s storyline is taking no shorts.

An intricate musical aesthetic is delicately woven through spot-on wardrobe timestamps, action-packed laughter, and a brown and Afrocentric ethos. The first episode will make you reminisce of a time when love was much simpler.  Relatable characters Ezekiel “Books” Figuero (Justice Smith), and Mylene Cruz (Herizen Guardiola) are nerve-wracking for viewers –  as they stumble through their youthful ambitions. Viewers are left on the edge of their seats praying the adolescent couple manages to hold the pureness of their relationship together – while the lustiness of nightlife fills their funk and disco performance experiences.

Spectators should be cautioned, Shaolin Fantastic (Shameik Moore) remains the cast’s token wild boy and turns The Get Down Brothers’ emcee aspirations from a hobby to a profitable endeavor. This new feat will not come without its fair share of power struggles. The second season of The Get Down will include the excitement of this era’s most impeccable vinyl spins, a more lethal flow from Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling (Jaden Smith), in addition to, the heartbreak of traitorous infidelity.

But there’s more! The creator of The Get Down, Stephen Adly Guirgis, explained to the New York audience his extensive search for hip-hop innovators wasn’t an easy one.  While producing the celebrated period drama, he collaborated with the emcees, gang members, record label executives, b-boys and influencers of the time. These collaborative minds have added a more in-depth narrative, and vital layers to the five episodes to come. Stay tuned!  April 7th marks the date of The Get Down’s  must-see Netflix premier.
