Sequel? For spring? Groundbreaking.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is destined to walk its way on the runway and into a smashing global success this weekend. The original film two decades ago was not just a trend. It was the ultimate fashion statement. The 2006 phenomenon defined a generation.  That’s all.

Yet, in 2026 what does a second twirl in the skirts of some of the most beloved characters and screen gems mean to a new generation as much as those guarding their nostalgia. Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel are the beloved group you cannot help but want to know. Their next chapter in film history may not be as snappy and sassy as the audience desires, but it will be glossy pages full of charm and dare we say sweetness.

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in 20th Century Studios film is directed by David Frankel, written by Aline Brosh McKenna, produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and Aline Brosh McKenna.

The next chapter this group of artisans has sewed together is a pattern full of great cinema. But like muted colors, some of the work may come across as a bit too beige for the audience that fell in love with the sassy snaps of Miranda and curated wit of Andy. It’s softer in 2026 and dare we even say sweet. Maybe a bit too many pumps of vanilla in the Starbucks coffee order pickup.

It still though makes a lovely fashion statement. The screen lights up when the dynamic four grace the big screen. Being in a theater and feeling the sense of joy and delight is a remarkable achievement and why the film with be globally adored. It is nostalgia served up in glorious patterns even if some of the script feels as if it was tailored for a world a little scared to be fully devilish.

What stands out the most is the brave stance again a changing world, especially for those in media and fashion. The pressure of an AI planet is bigger than we could of ever imagined coming to IRL. Two decades ago it may have seemed like science fiction, but the voice that raises in the film is spot on when it expresses the challenges coming on the horizon of an ever-evolving workforce in design and journalism. It’s here the audience will see the Andy charm turned up to the max.

Perhaps we all just grow up as we glow up. There are lessons to be learned in with age comes wisdom as will be seen in these fruitful relationships.

Get ready to laugh, to cry and to smile. Wear your best dress and guard nothing. Let it all go and twirl it up this glossy weekend.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 debuts exclusively in theaters May 1.
