The Blue Jacket Fashion Show united fashion, the arts, and influential celebrities from diverse industries for a great cause – to help raise awareness and funds for the prevention of Prostate Cancer through the organization, ZERO.
ZERO provided a Fact Sheet titled, “Top Ten Things You Need To Know About Prostate Cancer,” and some of the alarming facts include: 1 in 8 men in the U.S. will have prostate cancer in their lifetime; prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among American men; and it’s also referred to as a ‘silent disease,’ because there are often no symptoms.
Celebrities on the carpet such as notorious Scientist, Bill Nye, Broadway Actor, Andy Karl, Comedian and Actor Mario Cantone, and more, came to support the great cause as models for the runway show, while offering the same unanimous advice during our interviews: that all men should get tested and it only takes a few minutes to do so! The Fashion Show brought together a sense of community, urgency, and openness when discussing prostate cancer, which can sometimes be a taboo topic for some men, as the celebrities noted.
All of the Models represented their different industries proudly – from journalism to acting, to being Doctors themselves, and strutted and danced enthusiastically in their designer ‘Blue Jackets.’ The Fashion Show not only brought awareness, but proactiveness as well, because once guests exited the venue, outside was a mobile prostate cancer screening truck, and men lined up to take charge of their health.
