Shenseea Teams With Captain Morgan and Vita Coco for Tropical Takeover Tour

by Chris K. Singh July 4, 2023
written by Chris K. Singh

6-28-23- As we are midway through the wild ride we call an NYC summer, things have been ramping up as of recently and really taking on a life of its own.

One event in particular in reference would be the Tropical Takeover Tour- sponsored by Vita Coco and Captain Morgan and Headlined by current worldwide sensation Chinsea Linda Lee otherwise known as Shenseea.

From the doors, those who had the pleasure of attending were immediately greeted with an island vibe that could not be described.

As you enter, the plants and lights that greet you seem as they are growing through the ceiling.

From drinks to food- Captain Morgan and Vita Coco did not miss a beat. The drinks were based on the tropical theme and it seemed as if everyone was drinking the Jamaican Rum Punch as the distinctive red liquid seemed to be in everyone’s cup.

As if the drinks weren’t enough, the food had those in attendance in a frenzy as people were lined up all throughout the venue.

By the Shenseea hit the stage- fans were more than ready.

As the lights dimmed, you heard her distinctive voice before you saw her. And upon arrival Shenseea did not disappoint.

The energy was electric from the beginning, as Shenseea did everything from free-styling to performing her biggest hits.

From the critically acclaimed “Lighters” to her newest single “Curious”- fans were not starved for much, as she did not disappoint in any fashion.

One of the more notable things was how Shenseea went out of her way to uplift all the women in attendance, reminding them the importance of an independent mindset.

The highlight of the night was the dancing contest that Shenseea chose to host on stage.

Three contestants had the opportunity to not only dance with Shenseea but the winner actually performed her closing song with her.

As the concert came to a close, it was clear that the bond Shenseea was developing with her fans might still be growing, but is extremely strong.

Reggae Love Fest: Celebrating Dancehall Royalty and Honoring Reggae Influences

by William Murray July 2, 2023
written by William Murray

July 1st annually marks International Reggae Day, and what better way for New Yorkers to celebrate the culture than with a live music extravaganza?

Reggae Love Fest took place last month at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, featuring legendary artists such as Shabba Ranks, Capleton, Barrington Levy, Elephant Man, Mad Cobra, Yellow Man, Mad Lion, and Little Vicious. These iconic figures have left an indelible mark on Jamaican music, particularly during the 90s when they epitomized the popular fusion of hip-hop and reggae, paying homage to this genre during the concert. Among the dancehall royalty present was Lady Patra, who captivated us with her timeless album “Queen of the Pack” released 30 years ago.

Patra, the revered reggae female deejay, opened her set with a powerful rendition of fellow Jamaican singer Grace Jones’ classic “Pull Up to the Bumper.” This song, which served as the first single from Patra’s second album “Scent of Attraction” in 1995, became an instant hit in the U.S. Just like Grace Jones, Patra has become an icon, boasting a music career that spans over three decades. Her significance was evident as she stood as the sole female artist in the lineup.

For those who recall, Patra’s music videos for “Think,” filmed in Brooklyn alongside the late Lyn Collins, or “Romantic Call,” featuring rapper Yo-Yo and a guest appearance by Tupac Shakur, are unforgettable. Vanity Fair once acclaimed her as the first international queen of Jamaican dancehall, and even after three decades, she still holds the prestigious title, reigning supreme. Now, she has returned with her latest two singles: “Love Your Body” and “Gimmi Way.”

Last week, Patra, alongside Vicious and Mad Lion, shared the stage at the 2023 BET Awards in Los Angeles. They delivered a sensational medley of their greatest hits, commemorating 50 years of hip-hop and honoring the pioneers who shaped the genre through reggae influences.
