New Music Roundup: Releases You May Have Missed

747 – WHILE MY 303 GENTLY WEEPS [AQUAREGIA]

Ryan Chan – alias 747 – pushed himself to the forefront of a new crop of Acid Techno producers with his distinct blend of introspective cuts that teeter between the warehouse-primed and at-home-listening spaces. His latest single arrives nearly a year following the release of the star-studded Aurora Centralis remix EP, which included reworks from Schacke, nthng, Primal Code, and Tin Man. “While My 303 Gently Weeps” – a charming nod to The Beatles’ ‘68 White Album listing – showcases 747 at his most powerful. Landing us entirely on another planet, it leads with a combination of unforgiving kicks, repetitive galactic melodies, and an enveloping snare before climaxing in a serene space that echoes his signature acid touch.

TOR – FOXGLOVE [ELEUTHERA MUSIC]

Renowned Canadian electronic music talent TOR returns to the release radar nearly a year after his last original release, this time around with the lead single ‘Foxglove’ from his highly-anticipated forthcoming third album Oasis Sky. The nearly five-minute musical endeavor immediately kicks off with a subdued, ambient tone. The pace builds steadily, alongside an atmospherically entrancing melody and beat that is replete with an infectiously propelling energy. Chopped, unintelligible, and discombobulated vocal cuts effortlessly aid in crafting a heady tone that’s consistently carried throughout the track’s entirety. Wholly awe-inspiring from start to finish, the latest masterpiece to come from TOR serves as yet another prime addition to his burgeoning back-catalog.

NATHASSIA & D3FAI – IN MY HEAD (REMIXES) [ARCHANGEL UK]

Multicultural ambassador, DJ, producer, and vocalist NATHASSIA (pronounced Natasha) has released her second collaboration alongside Argentinian big-room producer D3FAI. Expanding upon the foundation built on in their prior collaboration “Change The World“,  the synergy the two stumbled upon paved way for another striking intersection between NATHASSIA’s vocal talent and D3FAI’s no-nonsense approach to the classic big-room sound. Airy, light and electrifying, NATHASSIA’s vocal work in “In My Head” weaves soothing sunshine through the fabric of an otherwise heavy big-room dance track, creating a contrast that compliments the other harmoniously.“In My Head” has given D3FAI his first opportunity to showcase his techno production skills which he has been honing over the past 12 months by way of a Techno Mix compliment to the big-room main cut. The rework adapts the original intuitively, substituting bass-heavy drops for a steady, percussive rhythm that furthers a brooding contrast to NATHASSIA’s uplifting vocal.

ALISON WONDERLAND & VALENTINO KHAN – ANYTHING (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)

Following on the heels of their wildly successful November collaboration “Anything,” electronic music mega heads Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan excitedly debut the track’s accompanying music video. An effortless collision of two sonic styles, “Anything” exudes powerful feminine energy courtesy of Alison Wonderland’s captivating vocal performance and riveting house music flair by Khan himself.  The music video chronicles a house party in the woods, starring Alison Wonderland and Valentino Khan themselves. Cutting between scenes depicting a lively party and Wonderland working as a mysterious mixologist, the party soon bursts into dynamic color as the guests sip Wonderland’s magic elixir. A sharp descent into hell-sent madness ensues, as the video turns towards the occult. Both Wonderland and Khan watch into the madness of the partygoers, before finally indulging themselves. Clocking in at just under 4 minutes, the official “Anything” music video is equal parts exciting and bone-chilling.

EDONE – CRAMP EP [BEDROCK RECORDS]

One of Techno’s most creative contemporary stars, EdOne, makes his debut contribution to John Digweed’s illustrious Bedrock Records, with a mesmerizing 3-track offering. Opening with Cramp, EdOne sets the listener on a journey through emotive suspense, creating a cinematic masterpiece that dips and peaks in intensity throughout its 7-minute run time. Layering intelligent sound design elements against cosmic soundscapes, EdOne’s artistry is put on full display and sets the theme for this 3-part opus. Carrying his industrial tones over to the EP’s second offering, Freedom, the burgeoning producer flaunts his percussive expertise with tribal-induced rhythms and oscillating tempos. Ruled By Inept closes out the release with a gritty attitude, fueled by dissonance and alarm-stricken synths, conducive to dark, smokey dancefloors. Aside from his inaugural release on the esteemed imprint, EdOne will feature on the much-anticipated forthcoming QUATTRO II compilation in February, curated by label head John Digweed as a follow up to his highly coveted QUATTRO album project.

BRUER – MIND FLAY EP

A genre-defying talent transcending the typical confines of electronic music, BRUER pushes boundaries. Excelling in bass driven, high-energy, melodic feats, BRUER proves himself as quite the jack-of-all-trades. Following the highly successful release of lead single “Nasty,” BRUER excitedly unveils his debut EP. Kicking off the Mind Flay EP is “Take You Higher,” a trap-heavy treat laced with BRUER’s signature sound design. Catchy vocal chops ride throughout in-your-face production from BRUER, as the producer gives a glimpse of what is yet to come from his face-melting debut. Continuing his outing for blood, “Headshot” melds intricate trap beats with experimental bass. A tasteful meeting of two unique genres, BRUER creates a highly visceral experience through sound. Oscillating synth punches grab the reigns over wicked 808s, as Mind Flay finds itself near conclusion. Wrapping up BRUER’s debut is “What You Want,” a three-minute and thirty-three second whirlwind of dubstep and experimental bass. A truly unique debut, BRUER’s Mind Flay is an EP for the ages.

ALUNA – ENVIOUS (REZIDENT REMIX) [MAD DECENT]

Following his biggest year-to-date, German producer Rezident returns to the release radar with a scintillating rework of Aluna’s hit single ‘Envious’ off her Renaissance album. Rezident weaves his signature sound gracefully into the original with deep synths scattered across a commanding bassline. With over 5 million streams since the release, the original ‘Envious’ captivated the dance music world with Aluna’s catchy vocals and groovy soundscape. Calling on Rezident to lend his deep house flair, his rendition of ‘Envious’ transforms the track into a club-ready weapon. Rezident’s dynamic remix highlights the resonating vocals from the original while weaving a thunderous soundscape.  As his first release of 2021, Rezident launches into the new year on a powerful high note.

DELACEY – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ME TODAY [DELICATE FLOWER]

Acclaimed songbird Delacey returned Friday with a new tier of haunting and heartfelt in a new song accompanied by a deeply personal short film created with the people closest to her, “Everything You Need To Know About Me Today”. Filmed in her parents’ Michigan hometown, surrounded by family members, the 9-minute visual captures the pains of growing and the candid, intimate moments of life portrayed through memories and moments, then and now. It features cameos from her grandfather, mother, father, brother, sister, uncle, cousins as well as her fiancé. “EYNTKAMT” introduces Delacey’s sophomore album arriving later this year, which follows a string of touching visual releases off the multi-platinum songwriter’s powerful debut LP “Black Coffee” which arrived to tastemaker acclaim.
