Michael Costello’s Spring Summer 2019 collection, titled “Gitana” pays homage to gypsy culture. The dresses are inspired by the free independent gypsy woman who is unbound by the traditional rules of their culture. The dresses are in turn, effortless and easy to wear. The collection boasts pieces that are exceptionally flowy, ruffly, and glittery. His designs showcase an effortless chic that seems attainable for any woman to throw on a dress and head out the door.
His dresses are all glamorous yet casual. The drape and movement of the fabric give any woman who wears these designs the air of a goddess. The colors that are used for these pieces are bright and young, which keeps the collection looking fresh.
High cut slits were omnipresent in the collection which lengthens the wearer’s legs. Costello constructed a daring hip height slit, which was safe and secure for the wearer to not flash their undergarments. He created what is essentially a one legged jumpsuit with fabric draped over to create the look of a skirt. This innovative design is a game changer for women now that security is guaranteed bythe garment. Women can finally fully enjoy the billowing drapes of fabric that blow gracefully in the wind to give that easy, relaxed vibe.
The looks were accessorized with large beaded statement earrings and necklaces indicative of the gypsy culture. The hair for the models was also kept in theme with a fantasy gypsy goddess look. Models sported loose waves with little strands of braids adorned with small strands of coins.
The makeup was bold and colorful which makes a great statement for spring and summer. The bright beauty colors complimented the bright garments to give the total look a punch.
This collected included a portion of men’s clothing as well. It featured sequined men’s briefs as well as loose pants and colorful jumpsuits. The coed mix of clothing was unexpected but complimented the idea of a gypsy goddess quite well.
