December 15 Netflix will premier Selling Sunet spin-off series Selling Tampa
The new reality television series differs from the original in many ways such as the location, property differences, and the obvious difference of being a cast of all Black and Brown women. The Selling Sunset spinoff is the embodiment of #Blackgirlmagic, and is a refreshing contrast to the images typically shown of women of color on reality television. Selling Tampa shows the diversity of Black femininity, Black female empowerment, Black sisterhood, and Black professionalism.
The depiction of women of color on reality television has been critiqued since the genre’s inception, and shifting those narratives is an unexpected surprise. When deciding to film the show the cast unanimously agreed that the ability to highlight women of color in a professional setting and succeeding in a luxury market was important. Representation and how communities are represented is important, and the ability for young girls to see a group of women of color dominate the Florida luxury market is important to see.
Viewers will see that the Allure Realty team functions as a family and though they might have their disagreements, the love and support they have for each other can be felt both in the show and during their interview. The drama that occurs on the show, unlike its predecessor, feels similar to sibling arguments, rivalries, and makeups.
Founder and CEO Sharelle Rosado is a military veteran, and after serving her country she took the skills and dedication she learned and put that energy towards real estate. Today, Sharelle is one of Florida’s top producing real estate agents, and has created a real estate brokerage that gives other women of color access to the luxury real estate market.
The trailer can be found below, and make sure to watch Selling Tampa on Netflix December 15.
