Parisian footwear designer Marie Laffont launched her brand on Dec. 12 with wine and art. The debut collection, named Celestial Derby, sat in the midst of paintings at the Almine Rech Gallery; the perfect home for shoes inspired by contemporary art.
After working as a designer at Christian Louboutin, Laffont began to design her own shoes which are now designed in New York and handcrafted in Italy with leather skins. Despite being made in the same fashion as most couture shoes, Laffont kept her collection unique through the use of studs, animal prints and not being afraid to play with different materials.
“They’re for everybody,” Laffont said as she explained the shoe’s comfort are for modern women. She also explained that the shoes are inspired by her style. “Sometimes I dress like a man and then sometimes I dress really girly,” she said; in her shoes, women can do both.
As for the brand’s future, Laffont will be working on boots and other styles of shoes since this line focused specifically on loafers. These wearable pieces of art are available on thr brand’s website. To keep up with new releases follow the brands Instagram @marielaffontofficial.
