Fresh off their performance in front of the nation on NBC’s The Today Show, K-pop mega girl group, Twice, took their charms to MetLife Stadium for a very special concert. Making history, the girls were the first K-pop female group to hold a concert at the legendary MetLife Stadium. Twice wowed their super fans, ONCE, with their New York Metro area stop on their 5th world tour ‘Ready To Be” on July 6th, 2023.

The concert kicked off with a short video of the girls. Then in front of a packed stadium, Twice set it off with their song, “Set me Free.” The girls pounced on the stage and grabbed everyone’s attention as they were clad in black and white outfits with sparkly silvery details. The outfits the members wore all were shorts with the exception of our Miss Independent Renaissance Woman herself, Chaeyoung, who opted for pants. They followed the song up with their mega dance hit, “I Can’t Stop Me,” that threw their fans into a frenzy. For their third song, Twice went hard for their song, “Go Hard.” With yellow, orange and red backdrops the girls had black silhouettes driving the song into a hard-hitting dimension. It was clear that the leader of the group, Jihyo, was feeling the song. Not only were her vocals on point but her moves transcended her physical body. With a smile exuding from her it was clear that she was sharing her soul and energy with the audience. Not to be outdone, Nayeon, the groups eldest member, flexed her vocal prowess hitting and holding high notes for this powerful rendition of “Go Hard.”

Just when it seemed like, Twice was hitting a crescendo the girls through the concert in the opposite direction slowing things down and sharing a chillaxed vibe for their cool song, “More & More.” For this song, the girls climbed onto ladders that made triangles, which could be rolled around the stage. With colorful lights projected around them and onto the white ladders it was like Twice was riding a rainbow.  The main dancer of the group, Momo, delighted fans with an iconic dance break before the girls headed down stage to perform their title track, “Moonlight Sunrise,” a song which was inspired by fans. As the girls got closer to their fans moving down stage the aesthetics of twice is light sticks changing color became almost like sparkling diamonds against the setting sun. The girls stayed near their fans downstage as they powered through another epic performance, which had fans screaming and singing along with the girls. Without taking a break the girls dove directly into their song, “Brave.” Again, Jihyo kept killing it when it came to the performance. During her solo she hit the high notes and held them. Then the girls took a well-deserved water break to chat with fans. During the fan chat they asked what was your favorite song of the previous songs that they just saying. They tried to quiz the audience and decipher from the audience response what song they like the best. During this time, Chaeyoung admitted that this was one of the first times they perform their song “Brave” during the daylight outside. She joked that she missed performing it in the dark because it was edgier and cooler that way. It was also during this time that Nayeon teased the audience and wanted them to show how much they love Twice by singing along with the girls in a call and response manner to the song “Moonlight Sunrise.”  Jihyo followed that up by asking the audience to do a ginormous wave that took over the whole entire stadium. The girls expressed how hot it was, but how happy they were to see their fans in the daylight. It was at this moment that Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung stayed on the stage while the other Twice members gently disappeared. Right before going off stage. Jihyo joked that there was something special coming but the audience might have already guessed what it was or could’ve looked it up online.

As the foursome walked off stage, the stage became dark. When light reappeared, the group’s lead rapper, Dahyun, appeared sitting at a piano dressed in a flowing gorgeous white with blue accent dress. She looks like a beautiful aqua Angel as she played the piano and sang, Colbie Caillat’s “Try.” Continuing on and the girl’s individual solo songs for this site was the Maknae of the group, Tzuyu. Performing mid stage in a gorgeous jumpsuit she busted out moves and even bent down on one knee for her rendition of Charlie Puth’s “Done for Me.” Up Next was the gorgeous visual of Twice, Sana. Wearing a red collared long sleeve shirt/tunic with black tights and a bodysuit she charmed the audience with her verison of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules.” Dancing her way into the fans’ hearts main dancer of the group, Momo, busted out on stage wearing a sparkling jersey top and shorts for her rendition of Beyoncé’s “Move.” During mid song she changed everything up, shedding her jersey revealing her crop top and shorts she took to a pole. High above the audience she swirled around the pole as if she was channeling her inner J Lo circa her Super Bowl performance. Closing out these solo stages in this set was Mina covering Ariana Grande’s “7 rings.” She strutted and showed off her dance moves in a white cropped sparkly top with denim shorts and high thigh bright pink boots. As she danced around her dancers shot fake dollar bills into the sky. At the end of this solo set a video appeared on the screen of the girls singing a minimalistic version of their big hit, “Feel Special.”

After the video, Live musicians in the band appeared on stage and began to play this song, “Feel Special.” Twice then reappeared on stage rocking new outfits and belting out the song. At the conclusion of this song, the girls jumped right into their song, “Cry for Me,” before delivering a rock rendition of their big hit, “FANCY.” For “FANCY,” the stage was bathed in pink with fiery unapologetic hyper feminine energy. To close out the set before the break, the girls delivered a colorful beautiful almost prismic stage for their song, “The Feels.” During the song images of the girls singing live captivated the audience with gorgeous colorful images. At the conclusion of the song, lead rapper, Dahyun joked with the audience. She teased saying could you say that we’ve done something new for this concert? She confessed is the first time that twice has ever used a live band. She shared in her excitement with how Twice has evolved as artists, now incorporating live instrumentals. The girls quickly exited the stage as it became dark again.

When the lights came up on stage, Chaeyoung was sitting alone on a wooden barstool with guitar in hand. She looked like a little red riding hood and a beautiful simple dress with red details. Her sweetness exuded while she sang, “My Guitar.” Up next, Jihyo took to the stage for her solo performance of nightmare with haunting rock vocals and dressed all in black she exuded emotion. Delivering a 180, Jeongyeon changed up the vibe completely in a bright green jumpsuit. She brought down the house with fun vibes and positive energy as she covered Lizzo’s “Juice.” In a iconic certainly memorable moment she even attempted to play a recorder channeling Lizzo’s flute playing prowess. Certainly was a hilarious and fun uplifting moment that made the audience giggle with glee. Rounding out this solo stage set was the one the only Nayeon. With deliciously decadent filled to the top with confectionery pop, she belted out her hit song “Pop.” Was clear that the audience was feeling her vibe and returning her fun energy with confetti flying everywhere. Another video Break gave the girls a chance to change things up. When they returned the stage they performed, “Who Am I?” and “Queen of Hearts,” before heading into a medley of their biggest hits.

Clad in denim outfits the girls kicked off their iconic hits medley said with their monster hit, “Yes and Yes.” They followed it up with, “What is Love,” and “Cheer Up.” When it was time to sing, “Likey” the group started the song from Dahyun and Chaeyoung rap section before letting Mina belts out her solo bridge and Momo did her iconic dance break for the song. The girls went on to perform their songs” Knock Knock,” “Scientist” and “Heart Shaker,” which concluded with the girls jumping up and down with glee just as they did in the music video for the song.

Courtesy of Instagram

After the medley the girls took a moment to acknowledge the history that was being made at the concert. They admitted it was a little over a year ago that they re-signed with their label JYP and now they are playing at one of the biggest stadiums in North America. They thanked the fans for such a historic moment and beautiful memory. As the sun had finally set twice kick things into high gear for their last couple of songs.

As the show drew to a close, they treated the audience to “Alcohol-Free” and“Dance the Night Away.” For these two songs, the girls really amped up the energy as if to say we know we’re coming down the homestretch and so we’re just gonna take it home for the win. The concert hit a crescendo when twice performed their megahit from last summer, “Talk That Talk.” Wearing cream outfits lights around with the girls that reflected with rainbows on giant screens. The stage ended with fireworks being shot off right behind the girls before they disappeared backstage.

As the girls were transitioning into a new set the fans had a chance to interact with one another. Projected on big screens a dance battle was set. The audience was challenged to show off their best iconic Twice dance moves. Whether it was fans competing with themselves or fans competing with other fans, it was clear that everyone was winners as the audience became so hyped cheering everyone on. Obviously, there were some fans who clearly knew all the Twice moves to the point that you could swear they were JYP trainees. Then the girls reappeared on stage. Twice were decked out in Twice T-shirts with childhood photos of them laid out in a newspaper format projected behind them as they performed their song, “When We Were Kids.” The sweet sentiments continued as the girls finished the show with the song, “CRAZY STUPID LOVE.” They said goodbye to fans each girl took a moment to acknowledge how much they loved the fandom. Again, they acknowledged it was one year ago that they signed the contract and then they found themselves performing at MetLife Stadium. Sana noted how amazing it was to see their fans in the daylight and in the Moonlight as the concert spend several hours while the sun set in the New York sky. It was this moment in which Momo took the time to tease the fans about Twice is subunit made up of Sana, Mina, and Momo. Now the subunit did not sing any of their new music which will be released later this summer, but they did give a sneak peek to a dance move that will accompany their new song. Jihyo Remarque just how proud she was of this new subunit. The girls then took a moment to do a K-pop classic concert staple, take a picture with their fans. They grab the camera and hand the girls huddled together with all their fans in attendance behind them to snap several photos and savor this historic moment.

Though the concert was unofficially over, Twice was not ready to leave their fans empty-handed. Pulling out a giant wheel, they left their encore performance in the hands of fate. The wheel displayed some of Twice his classic songs that the girls hadn’t had a moment to perform yet. Getting into the vibe Jeongyeon couldn’t help but spin the wheel in between taking photos with her camera. The first song the giant wheel landed on was “Scandal” followed up by twice is iconic song “Like OOH-AHH.” It was during these two songs that the girls ran around waving at fans trying to savor every moment and draw them closer. After both songs, Chaeyoung couldn’t help but spin the wheel for the final time. She acknowledged she wanted to land on the song, “Firework,” but kept landing on songs that twice had just performed. But the third time was the charm, and she got her wish. Twice finished out the show by performing their song “Firework.”

The girls took a few moments before heading off stage to savor the moment for one last chance with their fans. The last to leave the stage looked like it would be Jeongyeon until she ran into Dahyun, who pushed her back on stage. The two laughed and giggled and proceeded to head off stage for the final time before Dahyun turned around and promised that Twice would be back to New York and motioned as if to ask for the fans to wait for their return.

Twice made up of the nine members of now take a quick break. They will return to the stage in September in London to kick off their international European leg of their tour. That performance will take place on September 7 at London’s iconic O2 Arena.

LA3C WRAPS INAUGURAL TWO DAY FESTIVAL

by Serena Khahera December 20, 2022
written by Serena Khahera

LA3C successfully wraps up their first annual festival without a hitch. Penske Media Corporation’s (PMC) highly-anticipated LA3 music, food and art festival, which celebrates the rich culture and immense creativity of Los Angeles, wrapped the final day of the inaugural two-day festival at Los Angeles State Historic Park. Never have I attended a festival where close to nothing went wrong, much less a first ever festival. Staff were extremely kind and prepared with security guards constantly passing out waters and checking in with concert goers. In between set changes, LA3C also had a DJ keeping the crowd moving and excited. The stage production for each act was so unique and amazing and matched each artists unique charms. Many festivals that have been established for years, still can’t pull off what LA3C got right the first time.

On the Scene: NCT 127 Perform Sold Out ‘Neo City: The Link’ Show in LA

by Serena Khahera October 12, 2022
written by Serena Khahera

NCT 127’s ongoing world tour headed to the United States after announcing only two stops in Los Angeles and Newark. On October 6, The Knockturnal was invited to attend the sold out NCT 127’s ‘Neo City: The Link’ show at the Crypto.com Arena in LA. This concert was extremely special for NCT 127 and their fans, also known as NCTzens or Czennies, because it was the first time NCT had been back performing in the states in 3 years post-pandemic. “The Link” world tour was first announced back in November 2021 and began with a three-date concert at the Seoul Sky Dome. Since then the boys have already performed in Singapore, Tokyo, and Manila. The group also announced that there will be dates and cities for Latin America coming soon. The Newark show will be taking place on October 13 at the Prudential Center.

This tour follows the release of NCT 127’s fourth studio album, ‘질주 (2 Baddies)’. The 12-track album showed fans a variety of different genres while staying true to the distinct NCT sound. The album featured tracks that showcase hip hop and R&B influences as well as the groups’ familiar soulful pop sound. Their album ‘질주 (2 Baddies)’ debuted at #1 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart, #2 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales, and NCT 127 charted on Top 3 on the Billboard 200 twice in a row.

When I arrived to the Crypto.com Arena, I was immediately amazed by the dedication Czennies had with their neon green fanbase color when coordinating their outfits. The arena was buzzing with excitement as fans ran to collect merch, lightsticks, and pre-concert photos. Once seated inside the stadium it was almost impossible to find an empty seat. Fans sat syncing their lightsticks while singing along to their favorite songs until the moment they had been waiting for when the two screens split to reveal all of the members. Immediately the whole venue erupted in cheers, arena shaking as the boys began with a powerful performance of ‘Kick It’. As a fan of K-pop for over 10 years, I have attended my fair share of K-pop shows and seen how loud fans can be, especially when they are finally seeing their favorite group for the first time. After witnessing ‘Neo City: The Link’, it is safe to say that no fanbase can compare to the volume of an arena full of NCTzens.

The members, consisting of TAEIL, JOHNNY, TAEYONG, YUTA, DOYOUNG, JAEHYUN, JUNGWOO, MARK, and HAECHAN, made sure to make up for lost time since their last show with the amazing setlist they had. The fans spoke, and NCT 127 listened setting the standard for all K-pop groups to follow with their immaculate setlist that no one was expecting. As a long time fan, watching the show was like an emotional rollercoaster where I found myself constantly screaming, “Oh my god!” with each song they performed. With tons of classics like ‘Regular’, surprise throwback performances like ‘Touch’ and ‘Back 2 U’, and new hits like ‘2 Baddies’ it was a concert that no one wanted to end. Just when I thought the concert couldn’t get any better, Taeil appeared on stage kicking off all of the members solo performances.

After almost three hours of consistent performing, laughing, and throwing signed balls into the crowd the concert finally came to a close with each member narrating a personal letter written to the fans while preparing for their final stage. They thanked everyone for waiting for them and hoped they enjoyed the show promising that they will return soon. The concert ended with each member giving their closing ments while fans and members started to tear up. Even up until the last minute the boys kept up their energy cracking jokes and screaming thank you’s into their mics as ‘Promise You’ played. NCT 127 will be missed, but now it’s time for fans in Newark to experience the same amazing show Los Angeles got.

P1Harmony Is Back and Better Than Ever

by Serena Khahera July 20, 2022
written by Serena Khahera

If you haven’t already heard of them, you’re going to want to learn about K-pop’s latest sensation P1Harmony (@p1h_official) who are bilingual singers, songwriters, dancers, and a force to be reckoned with. The six-member male group consists of Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul, and Jongseob.

Just two months after completing a tour that sold out in 30 minutes, P1Harmony has returned with their second comeback of the year which features one of their best title songs yet ‘Doom Du Doom’, for their newest mini-album ‘Harmony: Zero In’. All this follows the band’s comedic entry into late-night television (watch here), a recent music collaboration with R&B sweetheart Pink Sweat$ (listen here) and a successful US headline tour.

The music video, which was filmed in LA, feels almost reminiscent to their ‘Scared’ era with the references to the boys being a sporting team in a futuristic sporting competition along with a powerful chorus where the members chant to showcase their determination and strength.  This new energizing song and music video with its upbeat hip-hop sound will tell you to do what you want and do it in your own style.

P1Harmony describe the project as relaxed, fun and colorful and for that reason it’s already started to garner attention from the tracks which have been previewed with drops all week before releasing the official music video for the single, “Doom Du Doom” today.

With the end of their 3-part Disharmony series, this new mini album marks the beginning of the band’s new Harmony series and the boys officially entering a new era.  At their Korean press release member Intak said, “After wrapping up the ‘Disharmony’ series, ‘Zero In’ marks a beginning of P1Harmony’s new trilogy that aims to find ways to a new world. Choreographies for the new songs highlight freedom and our unique style as well.”

The boys are hoping with this new comeback to convey a message of respect for freedom and individuality. Leader Keeho says, “This album is about freedom and individuality and how we are going to go about living in this new world we created for ourselves, the new rules we are going to make, and how we’re going to live amongst each other – and how to live in harmony. We’re experimenting with a new genre and new style so we hope that our P1eces will like it. It’s going to be fun to watch and see P1Harmony in a new setting and atmosphere. We hope you like it as much as we enjoyed making it!”

The album features six new songs that were all teased through track videos the week prior to the music video drop. The album incorporates the band’s signature harmonizing and captivating original raps while playing with a new fresh sound we haven’t heard from P1Harmony before. The opening track “Black Hole” captures an edgier vibe while tracks like “Different Song For Me” showcase a more raw and emotional side of the boys. The six-piece boy group, who sing, co-write their lyrics, and are famed for their choreography, prove their undeniable coolness and confidence in “Yes Man” and the track aptly named “Swagger.”

P1Harmony, who has received extreme success overseas said the secret behind its growing popularity is each member’s unique charms and great synergy. When discussing their recent US tour member Theo said, “Having many good experiences through the tour, I’ve realized that the energy we create together is very strong. Not only the powerful performance that we get to show on stage, we work in perfect harmony together”.  Through this new album P1Harmony hopes to showcase what makes them special with a fresh sound.

Tomorrow X Together Returns To NYC For ACT: LOVESICK Tour

by Emerson Unger July 11, 2022
written by Emerson Unger

It’s been almost 3 years since Tomorrow X Together, or TXT,  made their NYC debut at the Time Square showcase. During that show the boys, Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun and HueningKai, showed off their individual talents and skills that their label Big Hit Music so rightly scouted and tapped. Now, the boys returned once again to the Big Apple, but this time to showcase their evolution as a cohesive group as well as share the love with their super fans, MOA. The performance certainly showcased how much the boys had really missed performing in front of their fans.

The second USA stop on their first world tour, ACT: LOVESICK, kicked off in Madison Square Garden’s Hulu theater in NYC on July 9. The show began with a quick video intro that highlighted the wonderment, mystery and self-exploration that TXT has become known for and those sentiments were mirrored throughout the show. Fog filled the theater as the boys emerged on to the stage for a powerful and emotional rendition of their hit song, “0X1=Lovesong (I Know I Love You).” As the boys performed the song they were surrounded by huge movable LED lighted performance panels that shared images of blue ice and pink jewels that chilled the audience and warmed the soul. The performance had an extended choreo and highlighted how the boys have evolved not only as vocalists and dancers but as a unit and cohesive group moving as one to convey strong and powerful emotions.

TXT then performed “Wishlist” and “Blue Orangeade,” before taking a break to chat with fans. The opening set of songs was chocked full of cuteness and charms as well as vibrant colors and flavorful fruit imagery. It literally was positivity overload. One might think that it was the end of the show given how joyful it was, but for TXT it was just the beginning. The group loved getting feedback from their MOA on their performance of “Blue Orangeade.” It was obvious that the group was delighted to be back in the presence of their American MOA after such a long break from performing in the US.

It was evident that the boys really enjoyed performing in front of the crowd as they chatted with fans. Yeonjun admitted that the boys really mold over what songs they would perform and wanted to highlight and show off songs that had never been seen before on American soil. He admitted the group wrecked their brains picking out songs. The boys went on to perform their upbeat English song, “Magic” and jumped off the stage and walked amongst the crowd to perform “Ghosting,” while shaking hands, waving, and taking pictures. The moment was so magical and intense that even the in-house camera crew couldn’t keep track of the boys as they became one and merged with Moa.

The boys continued with a new set that was certainly rocking as they were decked out in vintage T-shirts that highlighted groups like Nirvana, AC/DC, and the Rolling Stones. They performed in front of yellow caution tape graphics to begin this set with “New Rules” and then “PUMA” as well as “Balance Game. The boys finish the set by climbing onto a Jeep for “Lo$er=Lover” and “Trust Fund Baby.” As the crowd sang a long, Taehyun’s vocal prowess was on full display for these performances as the boys lit up the starry night backdrop just as if the boys were inviting the audience to a warm campfire glowing on the summer night.

After a video break, the boys return to the stage decked out in Sailor Moon-inspired shirts to perform classic monster hits songs like “Crown,” “9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)” and “Blue Hour” as well as an emotional rendition of “Magic Island.” It was clearly evident that the boys really had matured when it came to their stage presence and ability to perform. Their craftsmanship was on full display along with their development as artists but what really set the tone for the show was how much the boys truly missed and delighted with interacting with their fans.

After a short video break, the guys changed into another outfit that mirrored this set’s darker tone. With a wicked red forest behind the guys and wearing white and black outfits, they performed, “Frost,” “Maze in the Mirror,” and an epic performance of “Eternally.” The boys then stopped to chat with fans and share how much it meant to them to perform “Eternally.”

For the next set, the boys continue down a path of exploration and are not afraid to confront their Darkside with songs like “Can’t You See Me? (Rock remix)” and “Opening Sequence.” They were clad in blue and black outfits. For this set long gone was the cheerful music that had started the show. Now the boys took on dark imagery with authentic emotional expression. Then only Yeonjun and Hueningkai stayed on stage to perform their song, “Lonely Boy” as TXT’s first subunit. After this song, all the boys united on stage to kid and tease Yeonjun and Hueningkai about their song. After some funny jabs, the whole group performed a touching rendition of “Anti-Romantic.”  They finished out this set with their current chart-topping hit, “Good Boy Gone Bad.”

As the boys disappeared off stage fans were left wanting more which of course TXT delivered. For their encore performances they performed “Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go” and “MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)” and  “Sweat.” During their performance of “MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari)” fans were asked to hold up signs sharing how much they loved the boys of TXT. The boys seem generally touched by this moment.

It was clear from the show, that the boys took the audience on a journey, not only of their own development as artists but as young adults maturing into adulthood. The show started with warm, upbeat, cheerful, and innocent songs that only TXT can deliver to the world of K-pop, but eventually morphed into a much darker moodier, and more authentic tone with songs that the group has become known for. However, the most touching part of the entire concert was seeing how much the boys delighted in seeing, entertaining, and connecting with their fans that they had clearly been longing for and waiting to entertain.
