Ashlee Simpson, Evan Ross & Jonathan Scott Attend Swiffer and Mr. Clean Event
Design enthusiast and pop personality Ashlee Simpson joined Jonathan Scott of Property Brothers yesterday at an event sponsored by Swiffer and Mr. Clean to discuss home cleaning and other home improvement. Simpson was excited to discuss not only home cleaning, but her current projects.
This is pretty exciting.
Yeah! Yeah, it’s always good to have a clean slate, clean house, especially with our daughter.
So what do you particularly like about the Swiffer brand?
About the Swiffer brand, it makes it easy. Leaving crumbs on the floor and Jagger’s starting to crawl, so it makes life easy. It’s easy to just press the button. house cleaning is important!
Do you work on home improvement a lot?
Well, I mean having two children, I’m like yeah! So I have to clean the house up, kind of organize things, and I feel like now that it’s spring, we just got another fresh start, yes it’s very important. Especially with all the toys everywhere.
How are you liking New York City?
I love New York!
What musicians do you listen to right now?
Ooh, interesting. Well I love Evan’s mom, Mama D (Diana Ross), I love Karen O, Sade.
So you’ve done some theatre?
I love doing theatre, it’s so much fun. I’m not looking to do any right now, but I’d love to do it again.
So what are you working on right now?
I’m doing an album with my husband. We’ve been writing it, discovering it. Soulful, a little rap, it’s been fun.
Jonathan Scott of Property Brothers loved discussing New York, which we all know is a dirty city, and his preferences with cleaning.
So, what’s your home cleaning philosophy?
I’m not a germaphobe. However, when I’m showing a room to someone, I want it to feel crisp and clean. The only reason people don’t keep their home spic and span is because it’s difficult. So if we make it easy, people will actually clean.
So what about your childhood? Because I bet children don’t want to be home cleaners or in real estate-
No, actually, my brother and I were actors. We made hangers when we were seven, because our father wanted us to get a job. It ended up actually being a huge success- this one woman ordered them by the thousands. Imagine, seven year olds, making hanger by the thousands…and then we didn’t want to be struggling actors, so my brother got a real estate license and I went to school for design, and then we just went from there.
What do you like about New York City?
It’s funny you ask, because earlier today we were promoting the event by walking down the city sidewalks with Swiffers, and people were watching us like “is he really cleaning a New York City sidewalk?” Can you imagine what was on the bottom of that thing? It was really funny to see. We’re filming here too, and it’s interesting because you’re in an apartment you can’t escape the filth, you can’t escape the grime…it’s right in front of your face. You really want to make sure you have multifunctional furniture pieces that also function as storage, that you can put away. So one, you can get the clutter away, and then you can clean.
So there you have it. Perhaps by the time you next feel inspired to clean, you’ll have a new album by Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson to listen to!

The array of art spanned from 1998 to 2016 all which for the most part was exclusively made in black and white. Aside from the very dazzling art displayed in the space celebrities guest such as Diana Ross and son Evan Ross attended as well as basketball star/TV personality John Salley, along with pop singer Ashlee Simpson, comedic actor Donald Faison, Jessica and Eric Johnson, Odette and Dave Annable, Jenna Ushkowitz and Adam Rodriguez.
The night was catered by the exquisite champagne brand MORENO BHLV.
The Mouche Gallery will be hosting the exhibit till March 25th, where you can view all of Tom’s amazing pieces from over the years.
Are you excited for the event today?
TH: Pretty sweet, wouldn’t you say?
What are your favorite pieces?
TH: Probably the newest, which is the very first big wave in the front.
Why black and white?
TH: It goes back to how I start every work, which is in black and white … the relationship I had with Mr. Schulz was in Black and White, that’s how he discussed pictorial problems all the time … and they are rare because I don’t do them a lot, so these are just a few pieces that happened.
We liked “Super Fly.”
TH: It’s a flying toy piano … that piece probably took about a year. The inspiration was about flying above stuff that bothers, so I took the toy piano bent it’s legs back and made him fly.
