As Miami Beach’s iconic Art Week showcase draws closer and closer, artists all over New York City are preparing to journey down south and display their work. But before all the festivities kick-off, music artist/art collector Kaseem ‘Swizz Beatz’ Dean is working to make sure that the work from both the trailblazers and the up-and-coming players within the art community is being showcased on a notable platform.
Last Thursday night at the New York EDITION’s Clocktower restaurant, the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card Portfolio collaborated with Swizz Beatz in putting together a dinner that highlighted “Women in Art.” Throughout the night, all the contributions being made from such an underrepresented sector of the art community were being recognized. During the event, Beatz stated the importance of celebrating the accomplishments of women in art.
“Our mission is to take that 3% number that represents the women in art and make it 20%, then 50%, then 60%, and we all know the rest is history at that point. So with the Dean Collection, Marriott Bonvoy American Express, we thought that we could team up together and start the particular mission.”
Joeonna Bellorado-Samuels, an artist being specially recognized for the night, was noted for her work in advancing platforms for female creatives, and serving as a pioneer in her community. Pajama set-pieces commissioned from the artists February James and Lakela Brown were also being previewed for the night, and the full collections will be on display during Marriott Bonvoy American Express’s Art Week event in early December.
Beatz said, “Bringing these worlds together, we’re celebrating the greats and the up-and-coming while they can smell their flowers.”
Miami Art Week 2019 will take place December 2-8
