The singer brings a new sound to the table.
Bryson Tiller released his sophomore album True to Self this past Friday. The release of the project came as a surprise to many as it was set to drop next month. Following the TRAPSOUL album that allowed Tiller to rise to fame, it seems that the singer made a shift in his artistry because this album is a big shift from the last one.
After listening to the album, it seems as if Tiller sort of went backward. Yes, he is still singing over trap beats, but the actual content of the music is what I would like to call a “hurt boy”. His vocals aren’t breathtaking and the raps on this project haven’t really progressed from those on tracks like ‘502 Come Up’. He samples R&B from Mary J. Blige and SWV, but this album just isn’t it. Sorry, not sorry Bryson.
True to Self is available for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify. Take a listen for yourself and come to your own conclusions about the album. The project has 19 tracks, including the single ‘Somethin Tells Me’. You can view the full tracklist and the video to the song below.
