Leading up to the Academy Awards on March 10th, South Asian leaders from film gathered for the annual “South Asians at the Oscars” Pre-Oscar Party. Co-hosted by icons in the South Asian scene such as Kal Penn, Lilly Singh, Hannah Simone, Tan France, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Rupi Kaur, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Shruti Ganguly, Anita Chatterjee, and Archana Jain.

The red carpet came alive with a captivating mix of trailblazers. From fashion icon Tan France, to poet Rupi Kaur who brought a touch of artistry into the night. Witness all the arrivals and delve into their thoughts with our on-carpet interviews – here!

Following the red carpet arrivals, the reception commenced. To set the stage for the evening’s awards, the co-hosts presented a touching video. This visual journey honored the rich history of South Asian cinema, showcasing the most celebrated films and shows that have left an indelible mark.

Taking center stage together, the hosts acknowledged their pride, reflecting on the immense growth of South Asian representation. However, the gap still remains and there is still a journey to achieve full recognition and appreciation for the cultural richness and depth of South Asian media.

Nearing the closing of the show, Ankur Tewari joined the stage for his first-ever live performance in Los Angeles. The two songs he performed were beautiful and touching even more so live, followed by his beautiful voice and whistles that brought the song to life.

With love and appreciation in the air between all the honorees and hosts, the after party began. Serving up iconic South Asian dishes like Samoas and drinks by Chivas Regal that were enjoyed all around.

Ringing in a touch of nostalgia, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the loved comedy “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.” In a playful nod to the film, the night was followed by White Castle sliders to cap off the evening.

The event was possible due to Paramount Pictures, Chivas Regal, The Asian American Foundation, Content for Change, Gold House, A-Game Public Relations, Honto88, and Product of Culture and their generosity .
