Wednesday night, we attended the latest session of The Annie O. Music Series presented by Standard Sounds featuring singer-songwriter Skylar Grey inside the iconic Top of the Standard. Skylar Grey (born Holly Brook Hafermann) has long been an industry name for her famed songwriting repertoire but is on the rise now as a mainstream artist gaining more and more recognition.
At 9 pm, Grey dressed in a white gown and dazzling hair and makeup graced the grand piano for an evening of her best selling hits for the Annie O. Music Series. The artist led with tracks such as Eminem’s “Walk on Water” featuring Beyoncé, portraying the emotions of being raised on a pedestal with high expectations and fighting through the pressure. The ballad sung in Grey’s own rendition penetrated through the emotions of the entire crowd surrounding her.
Other famed songs included the top charting “Clarity” by Zedd. Grey also went back to her roots of her first independent album to express her rebellious teenage years with “Wear Me Down,” and finishing the night with Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie”.
