Singer and songwriter Jai’Len Josey put on a passionate performance at the Campfire Concert hosted at A Forest for the Trees in Downtown Los Angeles.
The immersive multimedia installation created and directed by Glenn Kaino aims to inspire audiences to reimagine their relationship with the natural world through magic, wonder and music. At only 24 years old, Jai’Len has accomplished many feats on her musical journey. At just 16 years old she made her professional debut on Broadway in SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical. Following that she created the score for Oil of Olay’s “Rhythm of Olay” ALS musical commercial campaign, which garnered more than 1.4 million views on YouTube. In 2020 the soulful R&B singer released her debut EP titled Illustrations and has not stopped yet. She has worked with artists such as SiR and Ari Lennox and is signed to Hillman Grad Records which was founded by Emmy award winner, Lena Waithe. During Jai’Len’s recent performance at A Forest for the Trees she brought out a special guest, Grammy Award winning R&B singer-songwriter, Davion Farris.
Both Davion and Jai’Len are musicians under Hillman Grad Records. Their sounds complement each other with their sultry voice, vulnerability within their lyrics and dynamic storytelling. The intimate venue resembling a campfire surrounded by friends oozed a sense of warmth and familiarity. Concert goers were visibly moved and engaged by both performances. It was as though they were connecting with each person in the crowd. “I definitely want people to know that I’m an empath without me saying it. I want people to hear how close to spirituality I am with my music. That basically you can feel spirit through my music without even being gospel.”
