On Thursday July 14th, Second/Layer presented their Spring/Summer 2017 collection at Skylight Clarkson Square for New York Fashion Week: Mens.
This presentation was Second/Layer’s sophomore showing at NYFWM with a total of 15 looks. Designers Joshua Willis and Anthony Franco’s new collection is a mix between retro, 80s-esque casual wear and contemporary avant-garde streetwear. In two different looks the designers used sweatshirts as new-wave skirts with the sleeves hanging down the sides, paired with a shirt and blazer or jacket. Each and every model wore a pair of classic white or black converses adding a subtle rock element to the collection.
The overall collection, while minimalistic, on closer inspection showcased impeccable detailing. From long trench coats to leather jackets to sharp blazer shoulders, these looks while innovative included blasts from the past. The color palette included a variety of gray, black and navy with maroon, tan, and houndstooth prints. The overall collection had an angst, and an edgey a coming-of-age rebellious tone to it which made it a real standout treat during NYFWM. The focus wasn’t on high fashion, or formal wear, but rather organic fashion that trickles up and goes against the grain.
