Last Saturday, Galeria Melissa brought ‘Baile funk’ to Manhattan for an unforgettable celebration of Brazil’s booming funk music scene.
Last week, on December 2nd, a celebration dubbed ‘Melissa Baile Funk’ took place to celebrate over a year of festivity that began with the opening of the Galeria Melissa shop in its SoHo flagship location. Melissa, a quirky Brazilian brand designed around the premise of eco-friendly fashion, is known primarily for its swanky women’s footwear. With a modern take on plastic designs and rich colors, the Melissa shoe collection is refined, creative, and expresses individuality.
The exclusive party was a testament to the global influence of Brazilian funk, a musical genre from Rio derived from the electronic beats of Miami bass and freestyle. The celebration united Brazilian elements with the NYC culture, creating a dynamic affair as the guests enjoyed cocktail drinks and danced to the rhythms of authentic funk music .
The decor of the venue was edgy yet sophisticated. Fashion advertisements and magazine articles promoting topics such as ‘feminism’ and ‘power of expression’ were plastered all over the walls and tables, while video loops of models and dancers sporting Melissa footwear were projected on big screens surrounding the dancefloor. The immersive musical experience continued all night long with unforgettable acts by DJ Venus X, as well as, MC Carola and Leo Justi (Heavy Baile), who gave the audience a taste of Carioca funk with a live performance. Ultimately, ‘Melissa Baile Funk’ did not disappoint, as guests from all different backgrounds experienced the merging of Brazilian roots with NYC swag for a truly epic party.
