Live Nation hosted its 3rd annual National Concert Day at NYC’s Irving Plaza with performances by Foreigner, Nickelback, Nelly, and more.
Live Nation, the country’s biggest entertainment company, announced their plan to reel the summer in with a series of $20 concerts in select cities around the U.S. From May 2nd to May 9th, fans are being given the opportunity to over 1,000 shows during 50 high in-demand tours through Live Nation’s ticket portal. These aren’t just regular shows, however, the company went all out in recruiting some of the country’s hottest artists including Kings of Leon, Jimmy Eat World, Rise Against, Young the Giant with Cold War Kids and Joywave, and Styx (yeah, they’re still going).
On Monday, May 1st, Live Nation celebrated the upcoming promotion by throwing a celebrating in honor of their 3rd ever National Concert Day presented by State Farm. The event took place at Irving Plaza, where eager fans of all ages lined up around the block to take part in the festivities and see some of their favorite bands in a small, intimate setting. The itinerary for the evening consisted of special performances by Foreigner, Jason Aldean, Daughtry, Nickelback, The Roots, Nelly, and Prince Royce. The evening was enhanced by short appearances by legendary artists such as John Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls), Adam Lambert, OneRepublic, Joan Jett, and Cheap Trick.
Live Nation went above and beyond to provide a warm and energetic environment for enthusiastic concert-goers to celebrate live music. Their line-up attracted a diverse group of people, all of whom got a sampler of artists they otherwise would not have gone to see without the irresistible $20 deal. There was certainly something for everyone. Jason Aldean for the country lovers; Foreigner for the nostalgic parents; Nickelback for those who insist that they’re really not that bad; The Roots for the movers; Nelly for the groovers; Prince Royce for those wanted a little more sizzle. It’s always great to see how music can unite such a vast group of people with different backgrounds, but who share a passion for the tunes.
The standout performances of the evening would have to go to Foreigner, Nelly, and – don’t hate me for saying this – Nickelback. It goes without saying that Foreigner’s still got it. During Nickelback’s performance, the crowd belted out the lyrics to their hit track, “Rockstar”, which also happens to be the best selling song of the decade. Nelly took the cake with a surprise performance with the iconic hip-hop group, The Roots. Honorable mention goes to Prince Royce who graciously threw out roses when wrapping up his set.
