On Tuesday night, Amercian Express and “Orange Is the New Black” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress, Samira Wiley hosted an exclusive party at Fulton Market in lower Manhattan honoring the new AMEX feature Pay It Plan It, which allows you to place larger purchases into a monthly payment plan. The benefits to cardholders is that it is interest-free with no hidden surprises- the fixed monthly fee is shown upfront and users can still earn rewards.
Samira Wiley recently tied the knot with Orange Is the New Black writer, Lauren Morelli last March. Check out our exclusive coverage with the star herself and what she has to say about it all:
How did you get involved with AMEX?
Wiley: I just got married this year when American Express reached out to me. I thought, “Oh My God! The PAY IT PLAN IT payment feature would have been so helpful for when I was planning my wedding. There are expenses that add up that you wouldn’t believe. There are big things like the wedding venue in which you want to be able to plan and pay for month by month but also you don’t want the little things to add up which you can play for immediately with a tap of an app. I just thought that would have been really helpful to have.
How was your experience at Juilliard? Did it help you bridge the gap of where you are today with Orange Is the New Black and now The Handmaid’s Tale?
Wiley: I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for my time at Juilliard. It really modeled me as an actor. I met my wonderful agent while I was in school there and he has helped nurture my career and I won’t have this without Juilliard.
My classmate, Danielle Brooks was cast on Orange Is The New Black. When I got my audition, I realized that the scene for my audition was with her character so I just asked her to come read with me in my house. We did it and she helped me and here we are today.
