Royal Caribbean’s phenomenal Wonder of the Seas got the grand send off it deserved during a thrilling and heartfelt launch took place on Dec.
Breathtaking performances and epic dedications made the night memorable. The celebration fit for the world’s newest wonder lit up Port Canaveral, Florida as Royal Caribbean International welcomed Wonder of the Seas. The cruise line’s latest ship was named by its Godmother and Wonder Mom Marie McCrea. The Pennsylvania native gathered at the outdoor AquaTheater on the cool and starry night to take on the time-honored role as she stood in front of hundreds of VIP guests.
Executives and teams, families, friends, travel advisors, and cruise line’s partners and more came together on board the world’s largest cruise ship to celebrate the occasion. Bestowing a blessing on Wonder for its crew and the millions of families who will come on board in the years to come, Marie proudly represented a simply divine gesture of goodwill and humanity that is distinct to the cruise community.
“This is a tremendous honor to have been chosen amongst all the incredible nominees, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as the Godmother for Wonder of the Seas,” said Marie McCrea.
On stage joining were Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Marie’s daughter, Allie, who nominated her mother for the role as part of a nationwide search started by Royal Caribbean on Mother’s Day. A devoted mom, wife and cancer survivor, Marie was an ideal representative that embraced the fantastic goals of the brand to embrace the joy of life as they support all in the world equally.
“The search for such an inspiring mom who embodies the spirit of Wonder of the Seas was anything but easy. Marie and her family have a heartening and encouraging story that made us cry and rejoice and hopeful, and throughout it all, she inspired wonder and adventure in those around her,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “I want to thank everyone who nominated the Wonder Moms in their own lives. More than 16,000 videos were created, and I was in awe of all the incredible stories of the everyday heroes who are motivating those around them to discover, wonder and make memories.”
In the widespread search on TikTok for the ultimate Wonder Mom, more than 16,000 videos were submitted as part of 10.6 billion #SeachforWonderMom hashtag views. A Royal Caribbean panel considered the top submissions, and from those compelling stories, Marie was chosen for the honor. The cruise line has also invited the Wonder Moms who were finalists to set sail on Wonder with their families, honoring their inspiring journeys and the lifelong memories they’ve created with their loved ones.
