Oniro Taverna & Lounge, the authentic Greek restaurant that has been a favorite in the Long Island community co-owned by the Spyropoulos family (co-owners of Limani in Long Island and New York), brings guests a beautiful menu of re-imagined Greek staples by Executive Chef Peter Spyropoulos. Like their sister restaurant, Limani, the experience transports you through Chef Spyropoulos culinary expertise.
To kick off the evening, I opted for their Cucumber Cosmo. This was such a refreshing drink and the blend of cucumber and cranberry flavors is perfect for anyone who enjoys a mildly sweet cocktail.
For my first course, I had to try their fried calamari. This lightly fried calamari surpassed my incredibly high expectations, set by their sister Limani’s rendition of the classic Mediterranean dish. The calamari was served alongside tartar and marinara sauce. They also offered grilled calamari for anyone who is not a fan of fried foods.
For dinner, I had the privilege of tasting trying their Astakomakaronada Lobster Pasta and, the Filet Mignon.
The Astakomakaronada Lobster Pasta was my favorite dish of the evening. The dish was a combination of two of my favorite foods, Lobster and Pasta, and I didn’t think I could love them anymore until I tried this dish. The Astakomakaronada was served in a tomato sauce and had over a pound of lobster in the pasta. I couldn’t have been happier with the portion.
The 10 oz filet mignon served with lemon potatoes and string beans were equally as amazing as the Astakomakaronada. This is definitely one of the options on the menu that is perfect for anyone who wants to experience the beautiful ambiance that Oniro has to offer but isn’t a seafood lover. I opted to have my filet prepared medium and it melted in my mouth like butter.
For dessert, I chose a classic, Greek Yogurt. I love authentic Greek Yogurt with a little honey and fresh fruit so I can’t refuse any opportunity I get to have some. The Yogurt itself wasn’t too tart, had the perfect texture and, was very fresh. I would say without hesitation that this was some of the best Greek Yogurt I’ve had and was the perfect way to end the evening.
If you’re looking for a place to eat on Long Island, Oniro Taverna & Lounge is absolutely a place I would recommend trying! The restaurant is the perfect place for a family dinner and special occasions. Something I really loved about their menu is that you don’t have to only be a fan of Mediterranean food to enjoy one of their incredible dishes because their dinner menu has an excellent variety. The service was absolutely incredible and everyone was incredibly welcoming. I can not wait to head back and try out more of Chef Skyropoulos’s creations!
