Restaurant Review: Limani Roslyn on Long Island

The flavors were so authentic, I forgot I was on Long Island.

If you’re looking to be transported to the Isles of Greece through the flavors of their amazing cuisine, go no further than Limani Roslyn on Long Island.

The upscale Greek-Mediterranean seafood restaurant located in Roslyn, Long Island is known for serving up some of the most authentic Greek-Mediterranean cuisines on Long Island. Being that I’m a lover of Mediterranean cuisine and seafood, I couldn’t be more elated to experience dining at Limani Roslyn. The overall experience was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had to date. Not only did the food make me feel as though I had just vacationed in Greece, but the overall experience left me ready to return the next evening.

Out of their list of cocktails, the one that caught my eye was their “Mediterranean Mule’. The Mediterranean spin on the “Moscow Mule” featured Figenza Fig vodka and Pomegranate juice. The added fig and pomegranate flavors added a refreshing and fruity vibe to the traditionally spicy and strong classic cocktail. For anyone who’s a fan of the classic Moscow Mule, the tartness of the pomegranate flavors, and sweet berry-like flavors from the fig, mesh so well with the spice of the ginger beer. The Medditerenen Mule should be the new classic.

To start the evening we were served a plethora of appetizers including a Greek Tomato Salad.  This incredibly fresh take on a classic Greek salad included tomato, cucumber, green peppers, onion, greek olives, and feta cheese.  Limani prides itself on “highlighting clean Mediterranean flavors” and that was most certainly reflected in the flavors present in their Tomato Salad.

Next up was the Calamari. With Limani specializing in seafood, my expectations for their calamari were high. Not only did their lightly pan-fried calamari exceed my expectations but they’ve set the bar extremely high for any calamari I have after having theirs. The perfectly portioned plate of calamari was served alongside some marinara and was the perfect way to my appetite started.

I also had the pleasure of tasting the Kolokithi and the Greek Meze. The Kolokithi, are these thinly sliced pieces of zucchini and eggplant, and they were to die for. The Koloithi was served with Tzatziki sauce but I couldn’t help but dip them in each of the dips that came with the Greek Meze. The Greek Meze platter came with Tarama (greek fish roe dip), Ktipiti (red pepper and feta dip), and Skordalia (garlic and potato dip) with warm pita. This was my first time trying both dishes but certainly will not be the last time I eat these.

Now for the main course. The Loup de Mer was grilled Branzino with capers served alongside Limani’s lemon potatoes. The freshness of the fish is truly what makes this dish amazing. The Branzino alone is already a delicious fish but the added lemon and capers brought out the amazing flavor of the mildly sweet fish.

For dessert, I enjoyed their delicious Baklava with some Yaoruti which is Greek yogurt topped with walnuts thyme and drizzled with honey. The flaky texture and nutty flavor of the Baklava were amazing. Something I loved about both of the classic Mediterranean desserts, is that they were both sweetened with honey, so I wasn’t overwhelmed with an overly sweet flavor. They were the perfect finish to a very authentic meal and experience I had.

If you’re a fan of Mediterranean cuisine or just a seafood lover this is the place for you! On top of serving up some of the best food in Long Island, the restaurant itself is beautiful. Limani also has an NYC location for anyone who’s not willing to make the trip over to Long Island (although it’s so worth it). I can not wait to return!
