Aneesa Strings is a bassist, vocalist and composer from Oakland, California. A triple-musical-threat, Aneesa’s skillful multiplicity makes her stand-out in the current musical arena and adds to the uniqueness of her own sound.
Music isn’t something ‘new’ for Aneesa, it’s not something she recently decided to dabble into. She’s been making music since she was a little kid and released her first jazz album at only 13 years old. At an age where kids aren’t really aware of what a ‘passion’ is; Aneesa knew, very early on.
She received her Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California in 2014. One could hear the jazz influences all over her new album “Ways”.
It’s both refreshing and impressive as she meshes jazz with some classical music influences, neo-soul, R&B – and hence, the overall sound is uniquely, Aneesa. It’s her honest interpretation of the genres, as she lead with truth and sincerity through her lyrics and equally translates that feeling to the production and composition of the tracks.
“Ways” is a 12-track project that offers us a glimpse into the musical lane that Aneesa has curated for herself. Experiencing the whole-album and listening to it front-to-back, Aneesa forces you to do just that – experience every track.
She says: “This album is dedicated to all the people who are trying to find a different way to do something that’s already been done.”
Through the masterful production, filled with nuanced yet commanding instrumentation – Aneesa started the project with captivating-intro-track “Ways” and closed out the album so vulnerably and openly with “Daddy’s Girl”. The tracks flowed into each other beautifully as he music breathed through and the words were felt.
One can’t wait to hear what’s next for Aneesa as she continues to bend and defy genre.
