“Sometimes when the laws are unjust, the just have to be outlaws.” – Mario Van Peebles

‘Outlaw Posse’, an independent film written and directed by Mario Van Peebles, is making a major change to how Hollywood represents the wild west.

Mario Van Peebles, playing the character ‘Chief’ in the film set in 1908, returns after hiding for years to retrieve gold hidden in the Montana mountains. He gathers a group of outlaws to make the trip with him. Their journey turns into a high speed chase causing moral tribulations, action and loss of life. This movie is a western drama that has a goal to accurately rewrite Hollywood’s portrayal of the wild west.

Mario says you will get an authentic and real depiction of the wild west during the movie.

“As a filmmaker, I correct the cinematic injustices… I’m going to show you a west that looks a lot closer to the diversity of what America is now.”

Not only is Mario in this film, but his son, Mandela Van Peebles is also cast as ‘Decker’.

This is the father-son duo’s first time being able to portray their relationship on screen. Mandela states, “We’ve gotten [to work together] on multiple projects before… [but this time] we got to play father and son and that’s more special than usual.”

The film includes a talented cast starring Whoopie Goldberg, Amber Reign Smith, William Mapother, John Carroll Lynch and more.

‘Outlaw Posse’ is hitting theaters March 1.
