Serena Kerrigan celebrated her 28th birthday last month at STK Downtown, and it was just as iconic as everything else the media star does.
It’s been a monumental year for Kerrigan, with the confidence queen going on live tour for her Do It For The Plot series, which she recently brought to Boston on April 6th. To ring in her new year, which will no doubt be as monumental as her last, she celebrated with friends at the popular New York City spot.
Alongside themed goodie bags and a show-stopping outfit change, everyone gathered to celebrate the confidence queen with as much glitz and glamour as was so deserved.
Below, read on for our interview with Serena Kerrigan and Lindsay Schiffman, Event Planner for Team SFK who led the planning for the big night.
The Knockturnal: Do you have a birthday wish?
Serena Kerrigan: Yes! My birthday wish is health and happiness for my loved ones.
The Knockturnal: What was the theme for the night?
Serena Kerrigan: I’ve been throwing epic birthday parties since my 21st. It all started at Duke University’s infamous college bar, Shooters. This year, I wanted to go all out and the theme for the night was SFK – red carpet, main character, EXTRA. I found an old ad by Marc Jacobs which inspired the dress code, “dress to kill.” The party was planned by Lindsay Schiffman, with creative direction from Michael Brown. All of the signage, invites, and temporary tattoos were designed by Dempsey Murphy and the balloon installation was by Kado.
The Knockturnal: What’s next for you?
Serena Kerrigan: World fucking domination.
The Knockturnal: Tell me a bit about your outfit change?
Serena Kerrigan: My brand is about feeling empowered and confidently expressing sexuality. My stylist, Cassidy McNeil, pulled a dress from the legendary designer Marc Bouer to wear the first half of the evening. It actually felt like a sexy upgrade from my prom dress! The outfit change around 11pm was a last minute idea. We had originally ordered the Mugler corset and leggings to wear the night before at a dinner with my friends, but decided it was just too good and deserved to share the spotlight.
The Knockturnal: Now that indoor parties/events are finally coming back, are you able to notice a difference in how people are showing up to them in terms of both attitude and attire?
Serena Kerrigan: I think everyone is eager to get dressed up again and make the most of social events. The vibe overall is more enthusiastic and inclusive.
The Knockturnal: Anything else you would like to add?
Serena Kerrigan: I would like to give a huge shoutout to all my friends who showed up in full force to make the weekend so special.
The Knockturnal: How would you describe your relationship with Serena?
Lindsay Schiffman: Serena is an incredible boss, mentor, and friend. What began as a part-time brand coordinator position for SFK LFG LLC, has blossomed into a full blown event planner role for every launch party, sponsored event, and birthday extravaganza. SFK has always encouraged this team to go after what we want, to try new things, and to explore new roles. That’s how I ended up in this position. I live for planning events that capture a brand’s essence. I want party-goers to walk into brand events that tell one cohesive story throughout the entire night.
The Knockturnal: What was it like planning the event, were there any restrictions due to Covid?
Lindsay Schiffman: Planning SFK’s birthday was unlike any SFK LFG LLC event I have planned in the past . With free creative range, I was able to envision, storyboard, and bring to life an on-brand, SFK-esque event to celebrate her birthday in true SFK fashion. Complete with SFK mirror challenges, temporary tattoos, and SFK branded candy, it was a memorable night on the town.
The Knockturnal: Can you talk about the gift bags and brands you chose to be part of it?
Lindsay Schiffman: We wanted to curate a collection of SFK’s favorite items for winding down after a night out. These items included CEO Glow from Sunday Riley, Metabolism Bars & Detox Drops from Sakara, Hint Water (obviously), and other goodies from OLLY, Highline Wellness, PERKIES, and Absolut.
